Flock cameras have been getting increasing attention nationwide, with police departments touting the technology as another tool to help solve crimes, while others have raised concerns about privacy and the growing use of automated license plate readers. The cameras are designed to capture license plates and vehicle information, which can then assist law enforcement in investigations.
The debate has also made its way into the local spotlight, as reported on TLS last week: Brick Police arrested a 32-year-old Brick man accused of cutting down a Flock camera.
With these cameras becoming more common in communities across the country, the debate over their use is likely to continue.
What do you think: are Flock cameras an important tool for keeping communities safe, or do they go too far when it comes to privacy and surveillance?

Shepherds Insist: “Flock Cameras Are An Absolute Must!”
“Ever Since the Flock Cameras Were Installed, None of My Sheep Have Been Stolen From Me!” NJ Shepherd Says
Amid the recent debate surrounding the merits of using flock cameras, the Shepherds Association of America released a statement today hailing the aforementioned cameras as an absolute must for those who seek to protect their flocks of sheep from thieves.
“Ever since the flock cameras were installed next to my sheep pens, I haven’t lost a single one of my flock to the thieves”, said Baba Mehmeh, an Ocean County, NJ shepherd.
Steve Lambert, a 3-year-old sheep, who was born and raised in Mr. Mehmeh’s sheep pens, told reporters today that the flock cameras provide him with a sense of security when he’s out grazing in the meadows.
“With the flock cameras watching over me,” Mr. Lambert said, “I can chomp down as much grass as I want to in peace and tranquility, without the slightest worry. I’m all for the flock cameras, that’s for sure!”
Mr. Lambert added: “The flock-camera critics of the world have never been in my shoes before. They’ve never faced the horrific prospect of being kidnapped while nibbling on a blade of grass!”
Our beloved government would never never do anything that would spy on us illegally. They love us too much.
Our friend Ben franklin famously said “those who would give up essential Liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor Safety.”
read that as you may, but a deeper look into Flock cameras reveals an intrusive mass surveillance dragnet hiding behind the guise of “public safety “.
Can we just acknowledge that the name Flock as many have pointed out seems to imply that we are sheep!!!
plus the company has publicly said they plan on selling drones to police departments that’ll rotate out when their battery is low so that a drone will always remain in the sky watching everything we do , another way of them mapping our day to day lives.
would you want someone standing outside your house every morning to folllow you around for the day and night everywhere you go everything you do outside your house “within public view” and to private appointments, school , where you walk talk and shop?
Flock is basically that and worse.
Also the technology is flooded with weak security and unreliable AI, independent researchers and even YouTubers expose open internet feeds of these flock cameras without requiring no passwords to view civilian data or even delete evidence the cameras record!
the Los Angeles pd revealed a staggering 33% (1 in 3!!) false positive that subjected innocent drivers (and their passengers , children..) to terrifying at gun point felony traffic stops, after Flock falsely alerted nearby officers their cars were “stolen”..
FUrthermore the claim by flock that these cameras are just highway license plate readers is a blatant lie,go look at parks, walking trails and quiet residential neighborhoods where there re very clearly no cars, and nap millions of American citizens by FACE of their everyday private life, seeing inside cars, all without warrant, which heavily mirrors totalitarian surveillance states we criticize abroad (CHINA?).
Cops have used these cameras to stalk people…..
Look up US Supreme Court Carpenter vs United States. these cameras may just be a fourth amendment violation, and videos recorded by flock cameras are very often thrown out in court as evidence based off many of the above reasons i mentioned (ik its long, sorry)
And yes obviously if we could use it to locate a missing child for example that would be great.
which is part of reason for debate.
Thats why i try to stay middle ground
These heavily flawed ai Flock cameras are not your average ‘security cameras’ you may have around your house. They are stalking machines.
and it seems these concerns and more may outweigh the few “benefits “
You decide.
and yes, you can fact check all of the above claims (not conspiracies, i fact checked these claims a few times). Feel free to debate this. >>>
