BREAKING: Yet another Frum woman falls prey to scammers and empties bank account

Another Frum woman, this time from Brooklyn, was just scammed out of thousands of dollars, TLS has learned.

Similar to the story in Lakewood this week, the approximately 29-year-old Chasiddish woman was called and told a family member of hers was arrested, or going to be, and she needed to immediately send them thousands of dollars, the father-in-law of the victim who resides in Lakewood said.

The woman was instructed to withdraw the money from the bank and travel via taxi to a specific location Bayonne, New Jersey, to deposit the cash to a cryptocurrency machine.

The father-in-law says he received a frantic phone call from his son saying his wife called him to “Say Tehillim.” She then hung up and did not return home for several hours.

Shortly after 4 PM she returned back to her home in Brooklyn.

“There needs to be an awaress about these type of things,” a Brooklyn Shomrim member told TLS. “Speak to your neighbors, your Shul members and everyone who doesn’t read the news- they need to know it’s a scam,” he said. “Never get into conversation with these people, just hang up the phone.”

  1. Mamesh a shud oif Yiddishe Gelt.
This is so sad. So many of our families and mosdos are struggling – and these Ganuvim Resha’im just clean these people out, Mamesh Heartbreaking.
    HaMakom Yimalei Chasroinchem.

  2. A little education will eliminate this nonsense. It’s time for Rabbonim, askonim,& the frum media to address this issue. I hope the chassidish community spreads the word not to listen to these scammers.

  3. It seems that these criminals seem to know about the frum oilam and i would be willing to bet that the criminal is not in a 3rd world country, rather closer and with knowledge of our community.
