After reading about yesterday’s fatal accident involving a pedestrian, a resident decided to do his part by improving pedestrian safety in his neighborhood.
R’ Moshe Scheinbaum, a member of the Khal Yaakov Akiva Shul in Raintree, donated 50 reflective belts to be used by his fellow Mispallelim, Township Purchaser Yehuda Abraham tells TLS.
The pedestrian killed yesterday after being struck by a vehicle at about 5:30 AM, was wearing dark clothing and was not visible, according to police.
If you or someone you know would like to inquire about getting the safety equipment at cost price, you can contact Yehuda at 732-364-2500 x5971.
To be clear.. the person hit did not belong to a shul, the person donating is donating to his own shul, in honor of the person who got killed. Being invisible at night due to dark clothing trancends all race and religion. NO ONE is immune. Be safe, be responsible and wear a reflector from dusk to dawn!
we should promote the manufacturers that have built in reflectors into kids/adults clothing
and walk on sidewalks if possible
its really simple: dont walk on the roadway, walk against traffic, and dont cross if you see a car coming. (especially at night when you cant judge the speed based on the headlights)
you could put a police strobe light on your head, if you walk in front of a traveling vehicle = you will get hit regardless of how visible you are.
Is it NOT that simple. It is the drivers who must realize that they are driving several thousand pounds of metal. And that the force of that mass at even slow speeds can do severe damage to humans, animals, and other cars. Driving more slowly, slowing down around pedestrians, and looking out for other cars, is step one. Parents teaching and showing children to cross at crosswalks. Waiting for lights to cross. Noting that thirty seconds is NOT that much time when it comes to one’s safety is really the issue at hand. Drivers and pedestrians working together is the solution.
