EXCLUSIVE: Lakewood Township considering surveillance cameras near Lake Carasaljo in response to reported criminal activity

The Lakewood Township is considering placing surveillance cameras near Lake Carasaljo in response to reported criminal activity taking place at the Lake, Mayor Ray Coles told TLS.

Coles says he is in discussion with Township officials about the move after concerns of alleged criminal activity were brought to his attention.

“The reports are very concerning,” the Mayor told TLS, though he did not disclose details about the alleged activity.

Last year, a woman walking near the lake was assaulted. In response to that incident, the Township added lighting to the area of the lake, citing the Mayor who stated “Safety is our number one concern.”

The Mayor says police patrols will be added to the area, and police-monitored cameras could soon be installed to deter any further activity and to ensure residents feel safe while visiting the lake area.

  1. That is a very smart idea. Lot of no good going on there and let’s be proactive instead of sorry we didn’t keep somebody safe…

  2. What’s to consider? Just do it!
If they had Traffic Came on Clifton Ave from 5th St to 1St Street, and along 2nd St. from Clifton Ave to Lexington not only will Criminal Activity decline but the town would reap Thousands of Dollars from the numerous Major and Minor Traffic Infractions.

  3. As long as there is no surveillance on anyone connected to Trump I’m okay with the idea.
It should be noted, however, that when I complained to my neighbor about the criminal activity at the Lake, he told me, “Oh, cry me a river.” When I continued to complain, he told me, “You’re just trying to make waves about nothing”, and then told me to “go jump in the lake”. So it’s good to hear there are people who are willing to immerse themselves into this problem and not just tread water and float around various hypothetical solutions. In the end, these solutions could turn out to be a slam dunk for everyone!
