Amazon plans to begin delivering packages by drone in parts of New Jersey this fall, with operations expected to launch in mid-October from its facility in West Deptford Township.
According to a notice sent to Mantua Township officials, Amazon’s Prime Air operating area will extend roughly 15 miles from the facility. The proposed delivery area includes nearly all of Mantua Township northwest of Pitman, as well as the Borough of Wenonah.
The drones will operate at altitudes below 400 feet and will be permitted to fly from 15 minutes before sunrise until 15 minutes after sunset.
The Prime Air service is designed to deliver smaller packages weighing up to 5 pounds. Amazon has been expanding the program as it seeks to incorporate drones into its broader delivery network.
