An audio message emerged this morning from the man who helped track down Yosef Shapiro, the missing 6-year-old boy, and it’s quite chilling and heartwarming at the same time.
The 56-year-old man, Victor Shine, said he was hesitant to join the search, but when he thought about his own 6-year-old grandchild, he said he would have wanted everyone searching for him.
So he put on his sneakers and headed out.
It turns out, he was the key in finding the young boy.
Listen to his message below.
Dear Sir, Thank you for sharing your heartfelt message. You may feel small, but Chazal tell us otherwise – Megalgelim Zechus al Yedei Zakai. Ashrecha!!!!!! You are obviously a Zakai, not to mention you were the one chosen by Hashem Yisboroch through which to bring a yeshua to this boy, his family, and to the scores of thousands of his brethren who were sitting in our homes backing up the efforts on the ground, connecting to Borei Olam in Tefilla, Teshuva, and Tzedaka.
G-d Bless You and All, with a Shana Tova Umesuka!
To Victor Shine, No Words can really express our Graditude for your hard work!! The finding of a Healthy Yosef was really a Simcha of the Entire World wide Jewish Community!!
Victor, u sound like the zeidy we all need! thank you hashem for the happy ending and thank you Victor for doing the right thing! ur message will live on.
Wow!! Me kiomcha Yisroel!!! What a tremendous kiddush hashem!
Is this the same Victor Shine who wrote the song Minyan Man?
I agree with both of the above comments, wanted to add a thank you to Mr. Shine for pointing out the importance of each individual. When there are so many of us (BH!) it’s easy to feel that your contribution is unimportant or unnecessary. This story and message prove the opposite.
Kol Hakavod!
One of the most inspiring things I’ve ever listened to. Thank you not just for what you did, but also for sharing your message.
Thank you Victor, you are a true Hero! Thank you for sharing your message too, I got emotional just listening. May all of klal yisroel have a Kesiva Vchasima Tova!
Esther, that was my first reaction as well! Great minds think alike 🙂 It must be him, it’s not a common name!
Incredible!!!! Thank you for sharing!
What a powerful message that we all need to hear! Mr. Shine, what a zchus! Thank you Hashem!
It is really the lesson of the song Minyan Man that a single member of Klal Yisroel can contribute to the collective mission of Klal Yisroel. Every one of us has his moment to shine!
Victor, it’s been a long time since I’ve been in touch with you.
Bly”h you display strength and compassion.
I’m very proud of the role model that you are.

Let’s also remember – every single person who went out there to help- each has a share in the yeshua. We had to get to a certain amount of hishtadlus (& tefila and teshuva) and each person’s actions get us closer.
great news, didnt know it was chaotic in the efforts to ironically organize.
can we see a picture of this great tzadik please?
Wow.. What a shaliach!
Thank you. You Brought tears to my eyes- such a powerful, inspiring and heartfelt message. Good to hear this erev Rosh Hashanah.
All of us, All of Klal yisroel who were able to breathe again after hearing yosef was found has you to thank.. The power 1 person has is unbelievable!
No words!
I have the privilege of knowing Mr. Shine. It’s of no surprise to me that the aibeshter gave him the zechus to find the boy. Mgalglin zechus al yedei zakai. I don’t know if social media is considered b’fonav and I must suffice with miksas shvacho or shlo p’fonav and I can continue? Due to the question, I will err on the side of caution and not continue. However, I can say this, that if social media is considered s’hlo bfanev I have more to say!
