A Chicago man has admitted to conspiring to distribute more than 260 pounds of methamphetamine into New Jersey in what authorities say was the largest methamphetamine seizure in the state’s history.

U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer announced that Marcos Cesar Acosta, 47, pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court in Camden to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Acosta traveled from Illinois to New Jersey on April 28, 2026, to oversee the delivery of hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine being transported by truck. After the truck arrived in New Jersey that evening, law enforcement officers arrested Acosta and another alleged co-conspirator.

During the investigation, authorities recovered three black storage boxes, a duffel bag, and a garbage bag from the truck’s cab, all containing methamphetamine. The drugs weighed more than 260 pounds, marking the largest methamphetamine seizure ever recorded in New Jersey, according to federal officials.

Acosta faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, and a fine of up to $10 million. His sentencing is scheduled for December 17, 2026.

The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s MOPOD Enforcement Group 11 and the DEA Camden Resident Office, with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations, the FBI, and IRS Criminal Investigation. Officials said the case was part of the federal Homeland Security Task Force initiative, which targets transnational criminal organizations and drug trafficking networks.
