[‘How to’ videos below] Yesterday, Chaveirim received over 120 calls – most of them for boosts and for keys locked in the vehicles, a Chaveirim board member tells TLS. Of the ‘locked out of vehicle’ calls, many of them included children locked inside. “As the cold weather sets in, many people turn on their vehicles to warm it up and don’t realize that they can get locked out”, says the board member. “And some of the times your locked out, children are locked in”.
As the temperature drops, Chaveirim call numbers usually rise.
Just this morning, Chaveirim hasalready received over 40 calls.
Chaveirim suggests the following.
– Always carry booster cables in your vehicle, and learn how to boost a vehicle on your own.
– Learn how to change a tire on your own, so that if members are busy assisting other motorists, you can save the member a trip. Members sometimes go from call to call in extreme weather and any calls which can be avoided, will free up members – and also improve the response time – for the more serious calls.
However, if you are unsure how to do any of the above on your own – or should you be concerned about safety – don’t hesitate to call the trained Chaveirim members who are available 24 hours a day.

Nice. What’s there link to donate
How about a video on showing how to prevent your child from being unattended in a car? Especially in a car running with the heater on. You can always get a new tire, battery or car…..
mo r. is the best . allways ready to help out when in need
well at least that was 120 calls the pd and lcsw did not have to answer. i guess if AAA was free they would have been called to. come on people wake up and save this free service for the folks who really need it. stop being selfish
Instead of needing to charge your car with cables, invest in a booster pack, which allows you to jump start your car without the need of another one close by. While they are normally $60 & up, I picked one up on clearance for $25; occasionally Target will have them on clearance for something around that. Just remember to recharge them, even if not used, as the charge dies out.
Lakewood community do you realize we don’t have half as much calls as you do I hope you support your local chaverim chapter. Lakewood units may god bless you and your family’s
I Would Like To Take This oppertunity to thank Chaverim For The Wonderful Work They And For The Countless Times They Have Helped Me. I Would Like To Mention That The Volunteer In The Picture Is A Very Devoted Fellow He Has Helped Me In The Part And I See Him All Over Town Fixing Flats And Boosting Peoples Cars Thank You
Its Obvious That Lkwd Chaverim Gets More Calls Than Chaverim In Other Towns. The reason Being That Alot Of The Vehicles Being Driven Around Lkwd Are Older Models And Have More Problems. Last Time I Called Chaverim For My Flat Tire The Response Time Was Exceptional And The Member Was Very Helpful, He First Check For The Hole But It Was In A Spot That Couldnt Be Plugged (On The Side Of The Tire)So He Then Put On My Spare And Even Filled It Up With Air Because It Was Low. Thanks A Million!! Keep Up The Great Chesed!
go unit 62!
1. Do these programs/services tend to non-frum residents too?
2. Do these programs/services have insurance in case they damage any car they are servicing?
3. Are these programs/services licensed NJ Road Side Assistance?
4. Who in town or the state is regulating these services for compliance and training on road side safety/hazards?
Applying a title or a name for a group implies that its a service of some form(not a friend helping a friend).
So if i cant go and perform services of any form for people without holding some form of license or permit, and registering with the state somehow and paying some form of fee or taxes- HOW …… never mind.
Let’s not forget they are not just doing things for cars how about–house lockouts -pull outs-items in drains -.Missing people-erev shabbos host program-heater gemach -animal calls-pipe bursts-traffic.- emergency generators….. They are there to HELP!! The list keeps on going ty to all the devoted members
mr. conservative, you need to take a chill pill asap!
mr. conservative, did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed?
paranoid much?
All members of LKWD Chaverim are Lakewood O.E.M. (Office of Emergency Management) volunteers and many are also C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) volunteers.
They are actually very qualified most of them are on the CERT team and office of emergency management so get your facts straight!
It is also useful to carry a can of Fix-It-Flat (make sure it is tire-sensor safe if your car has that feature). However, it freezes when it is cold. Also, learn to check the car’s fluids and tires. Don’t rely on the gas attendant, some of them don’t know these things either! Ladies, don’t shy away from learning this; my Mom did not know to check the oil after Dad died and that was the end of our car.
TO #12/13/14: no im not paranoid, i just like order. and i dont need a “chill pill” & and i woke up on the same side of the bed as i do every morning. so these are all useless blank statements that dont answer any questions, nor provide any useful information to further enhance this topic.
Moving right along;
OEM (Office of Emergency Management) or CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) does not instruct nor teach road side vehicle repairs(that includes tire changes, jump-starts, vehicle lock-outs, etc), house hold lock-outs, nor accredit any member or license them in anyway.
Nor does it give a group of OEM/CERT members the right to team up under one title to perform any of these tasks without first seeking proper permits, training, and establishing an organization, be it volunteer or paid.
TO #15 & #16: SO BY STATING THAT THEY ARE “VERY QUALIFIED” BECAUSE THEY ARE OEM/CERT MEMBERS- YOU ARE STATING THAT THEY ARE REPRESENTING THE OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT & THE TOWNSHIP COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM, WHILE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ABOVE AFOREMENTIONED TASKS?
yanks ur the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For someone who claims to be conservative, you sure believe in lots of government regulations to kill good things. You believe a police officer should put lives in danger because the EMT’s flashing lights don’t conform to the exact government regulations, a guy can’t help change his buddy’s tire because of more nanny state regulations. Veeeeerry conservative principles indeed!!!
to #11 mr “conservative” get a life
There was a (conservative) regime around 70 years ago that also liked “order”. They liked it so much, they were able to murder 6,000,000 people in quite an orderly fashion.
Judging from your posts on this site, you’re probably more comfortable with their brand of conservatism than with genuine limited government brand of American conservatism.
I agree with the previous posters. He seems to be much more into government regulation ala “Mrs. Liberal”
Mr. Conservative, (moderated) Seriously, get another hobby besides raining on other people’s parades.
To those who are concerned about responsibility (mr conservative) all chaveirim organizations around the country give a disclaimer before performing any work that they are not responsible for any damages that occur from or during their service.
Also to those who think that a $25 is going to help their car start in the dead of winter, think again. Those packs barely have the power to power a flashlight. You want to look for a pack that has cranking amps that peak at a minimum of 1600 amps to ensure you will have the power when you need it (and of course charge it)
To Mr. C. Jews are a driven people, & we love helping others, which will explain people rushing out of their homes in the middle of meals, 2:00am, at family parties, etc, etc, to help strangers, Hatzoloh, Shomrim, Chaveirim, Bikur Cholim, & on & on & on, in which other communities in the world do you see this phenomenon?
Of course we’ll help non religious Jews, even
non Jews, what kind of question is that?
Now, while orderly people like you go looking for permits & training, a life will be saved, or a car fixed.
We can’t help it, this is how we’ve survived so long.
To member number 58 keep up the great work! 🙂
To Mr. Conservative. On a serious note can u please tell us what u smoke and what time of day do u smoke it ? I think its a wonderful thing to read about people helping other people and then u have one or two unhappy individual who have to make noise ……. Time to get back in to your racking chair and come up for fresh air when the winter is over
59 we love u
