VIDEO: Last night, Chaveirim held its annual Chanukah party for its members. At the gathering, Chaveirim honored Mr. & Mrs Rob Lawson for all they do for the community in general and for Chaveirim in particular. Many of those deeds are unknown to the community, and the Lawsons wish to keep it that way. “Although the Lawsons have been active Chaveirim members for a very long time, they have never been official, so I’d like to remedy that and do so now”, said M.C. board member Mordechai Rieder, and then jokingly handed the Chief a customized Chaveirim ID card for his windshield, should he ever get stopped.
“I joined the police department 30 years ago because I like to help people”, Chief Lawson said upon accepting a plaque. “What I do these day, is I sit in the office most of the day, I don’t usually get out, and unfortunately that takes me away from doing what I like to do” he said. “This this sort of brings me back to my roots and I really really appreciate it”.
The Chief then went on to talk about how the police department relies a lot on Chaveirim – especially in the Winter months and said how being faced with layoffs may force the department to rely even more on Chaveirim for non-emergency calls – freeing up the shrinking force – for the more serious calls.
Following the ceremony, Chaveirim had the opportunity of hearing a humorous and meaningful speech from Rebbee Hill, who has just released his first full motion-picture film.
The event took place at the Rimon Cafe on River Avenue.

Why can’t more LPD cops be like Lawson??? How do you mean that? They volunteer. They paint over graffiti, they run coat drives and serve free soup to the needy, they throw pasta dinners for the seniors. That’s just in the last 6 months. What more would you like them to do?
all the things you mentioned are nice cool outings with their friends. While they sure do deserve admiration for it, this isn`t what a good hearted officer means. We want the officers to stop shoutintg at accident scenes, abstain from writing tickets for silly infraction or writing multiple ticdkets for one infraction. The latter is what defrentiates a bad cop from a good cop!!!
can you clarify what a silly infraction to a non silly infraction would be?
