CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Vehicle’s Attempt To Cut In Front of School Bus Ends in Accident

A frightening incident was caught on a school bus dashcam.

Video shows the school bus driving on Hope Chapel Road at approximately 9:08 AM on Wednesday when a car can be seen attempting to cut on front of the school bus to make a left turn. The bus, full of children at the time, had no way of stopping in time to prevent the accident.

No injuries were reported.

  1. The opposing light at this intersection is very hard to see the closer you get to it. It’s posssible the driver thought the light was yellow (or at least not red and not green) and that the bus had stopped. It’s a stretch but possible.

(I wrote about this to the mayor a few years ago and nothing has been done. I am not saying this was the cause, only that it’s possible.)

  2. I feel very strongly that any motor vehicle violations involving a school bus, in which the other (non-school bus) driver is at fault, should include a mandatory license suspension and community service for the first offense, and jail time for subsequent offenses. Playing games with a school bus endangers the life of vulnerable school children. For reckless or impulsive drivers who cannot be bothered to remember that, a ticket, even with a court appearance, large fine and points, is not a big enough deterrent.

  3. He cut off the car ahead of him awaiting the left turn as well. Can we stop calling these incidents accidents, they’re clearly not. They’re a result of reckless drivers.

  4. It seems like the plates are NY.
I wonder if the uptick of crazy driving in town and the number of people who moved in from Brooklyn in the past several years are related…

  5. its unfortunate but i already had an encounter with the driver of that car a number of weeks ago and I was appalled by his wreckless driving. Makes Israeli taxi drivers look safe.

  6. beware this guy comes down Sunset Rd a little after 9 each morning, I just get out of his way and say a little prayer as he speeds by. He’s straight out of the video games. I pity the child in that car. If he would drive a camry he would probably be less famous.

  7. wow, that’s the ugliest beamer ever!I was always repulsed when i saw this car (dangerously) driving around town . for 2 reasons: ugly car and violent wacky driver.

  8. when the governor said “knuckleheads”, he was referring to drivers like these. Car insurance premiums keep on rising thanks to these knuckleheads!

  9. from just reading the comments it seems that this driver was a well known reckless driver in the area. We need to fund the (local) police so that they can get rid of such drivers before they do their damage! Notice how this driver used the left turning lane intended for turning onto NORTH Lake drive and continued going straight into the left turning lane for South LAke drive!

  10. Why cover the plate? In another article everyone is talking about taking photos in public places is acceptable so why is this different. Obvisouly, as stated, this guy is a “knucklehead” and has been around for sometime being such so make it public. Of course based on the accident it looks like it will be in the shop for some time.

  11. it was only a a matter of time that this would happen. It always seemed that this car had no brakes.
היה רק ענין של זמן, לא בכל שעתא ושעתא מיתרחש ניסא
I must admit that some of his stunts in the past were quite impressive! Is Nascar hiring? I’m really surprised the cops didn’t nab him until now, we all witnessed it every day.

  12. First of all, there really are crashes that are accidents. (weather, blind spots, sun glare, a different driver’s action etc) Even if not so in this incident. What if it’s the school bus driver’s fault? Same consequences? By the way, the school bus statute, NJSA 39:4-128.1 already includes an option of up to 15 days in jail or community service, as well as the possibility of revoked or suspended license, in addition to 5 points. When appropriate, a judge should penalize to the maximum. Everyone, at least the safe drivers, should have a dual lens dash cam, not just for one’s own benefit, but to assist others.
