A Brick Township man has been charged after authorities say he supplied cocaine to a woman who later died from an overdose earlier this year.
Roderick Seward, 31, of Brick Township, was charged on June 17 with Strict Liability Drug Induced Death, Distribution of Cocaine, and Possession of Cocaine in connection with the death of a 27-year-old woman in Brick Township.
According to investigators, Brick Township Police responded to a residence on January 26 at approximately 9:10 a.m. for a report of an unresponsive female. Upon arrival, officers discovered the woman deceased from what appeared to be a drug overdose.
A joint investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Strike Force, Brick Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that Seward had supplied cocaine to the victim.
Authorities said toxicology results recently received by prosecutors confirmed the presence of cocaine in the woman’s system. The Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office subsequently determined that the cocaine was the cause of death.
As a result of the findings, Seward was charged on June 17. He surrendered himself to Brick Township Police Headquarters and was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he remains lodged pending a detention hearing.
The investigation remains ongoing.
