Firefighters are batting a home blaze in Lakewood this morning.
The fire broke out at the Brook Road home shortly before 7 am.
Dozens of firefighters are on scene from Lakewood, with mutual aid from neighboring towns.
All occupants made it out safely, officials told TLS.
An official says it appears the fire may have started from an electrical issue in a bathroom.
No injuries are being reported.
The Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
Brook Road is shut between County Like Road and Ridge Avenue.
UPDATE: As of 8AM, the fire was not yet brought under control. Firefighters say the fire was trapped in the attic, and there were reportedly steel doors preventing them from getting in.
Unable to make entry, and in fear of the roof collapsing, all fire personnel were ordered out of the home.
At about 8:15 AM, part of the roof collapsed.
UPDATE: 9:35 AM: Approximately 10 people were displaced, and accommodations for them are being worked on, police say.

I don’t think Lakewood even realizes how lucky it is to have such a great group of volunteers. At any hour of the day, these men and women are putting their lives on the line.

Many fires happen from electrical issues. Many houses are grandfathered in with the old electrical code. As of today’s code standards an area that has water such as a bathroom or kitchen requires grounding and GFCI outlets. All light switches should be at least 3 feet away from a shower, tub, or sink.
