Regardless of where it is, it is a lesson for people to get more involved in teaching that this world is a happy, pleasant place, and not the opposite. Too many people live on edge – with a feeling that this world is Sedom and that they must defend themselves. These are very bad, anti-Torah middos. Sorry.
All shemiras halachon, limud zechus, good character etc. come to teach top have a happy pleasant life, and to be happy with what one has, and to realize one is accomplishing a lot.
Have you donated any chocolate bars to your local shul recently (hopefully sugar-free!)? If not, why not?
Have you given a complement recently or was it self-defense criticism? And even when you must rebuke, is it prefaced with complements as the Ramcaha”l says to?

And despite the eyeball rolling and thumbs-downs that this will get, what about all the SHOTS that kill and do severe damage that PARENTS BRING THEIR CHILDREN TO GET?!?! (vaccines – which don’t give immunity)
See many comments on this page which explain this clearly: BREAKING: U.S. CDC Lowers The Number Of Recommended Childhood Vaccinations [UPDATED] | The Lakewood Scoop

I see here 54 people replied thumbs up to this comment. This would lead me to conclude that people enjoy knocking Westgate.Westgate is the low hanging fruit for mockery and derision.now think about almost 3000 for the most part beautiful ehrliche families just doing the right thing.I wish the “ Westgate bashing” would slow down and people would start realizing that there are humans and Ovdei Hashem who could use more positivity from outsiders.

It’s ok no need to take it personally. Plenty of these stories happen all over Lakewood Manchester Howell Jackson.

When doing thumbs up were saying yes this is in
West Gate. instead of going through the process of commenting the word

I think the thumbs up were trying to say “yes, it was in westgate”.

Usually the context of the thumbs up just mean yes to “living in Westgate” , not that they are happy or enjoying to mock Westgate

I wish people would know how many good fine children there are in Westgate. These children actually refrain from telling their friends they live in Westgate because of Busha.I know this for a fact.I think that outside positivity both from outsiders (and websites as well) would go a long way.Remember ,whether we like it or not, the Lakewood area has become proliferated with fanciness and to some extent extravagance. Most of those people wouldnt exist living in Westgate for even one night.
And then we have 3000 for the most part ehrliche families who live a simpler lifestyle.
Lets pump positivity!!!!

Why is that important? If you’re that bored, and that’s all that’s important to you, you aren’t a ben torah or a caring person. So intead of faking, just go on instagram or twitter, any of the lashon hora junf tabloids. This isn’t a tabloid for toatal gossip 24/7/365.

I’ve just come from Westgate so to answer some questions …
There are many emergency vehicles in Westgate … several people have verified the location of this sad news … roads are open to traffic and nobody seems to be getting in the way (no gawkers nor rubber neckers).

I believe we should be sensitive, but us as in we the jewish people/community we are all brothers and sisters we should care and feel the pain of each other though we should definitely not make a joke out of it or get to personal with the friends/famly/relatives.

Kol Yisroel Areivem. I feel like when these extremely unusual tragedies hit. It should hit us more. Of course each individual can take on a small thing. Be kinder, learn more, etc etc. And of course all the askanim and therapists to help us explain to our children etc Etc.
And additionally We should be doing more collectively as a group!

When tragedies strike it’s all of our responsibility. And Gevalt -when this incident or the one that happened just a couple of years ago occur – don’t we really need to o some serious introspection?
Maybe a collective fast or something serious like that.
I don’t feel we are taking these seriously enough.

Just my.broken hearted thoughts.

Sometimes TLS should just report an incident and not accept any responses! I think it’s obvious by what was posted about the shooting especially when there no other information.

Reb Nachum, I wrote and rewrote my post until I was comfortable that I wasn’t being cruel or derisive in my response. I am not sure why a sensitive request to close the comment section on this posting caused such a strong reaction on your part. The request was clearly meant to promote shalom and ahavas chinam, and was in no way directed at you. Any details or discussions about this have the capacity to cause untold anguish to a family that is already grieving its loss deeply. “HaMakom Yenachem Eschem…” I hope that you can come to a change of heart without ever personally facing such an overwhelmingly tragic loss.

Avraham

To Rochel,
Why focus on one person that was not happy with your comment.
Instead maybe you should focus on the 5,000 people that saw your comment and they didn’t reply in a nasty way.

Rochel

I was not the one who wrote the initial post to request that comments be closed; although, I heartily agree with the request. I was merely responding to your vitriolic post to ‘Anonymous.’ You were clearly very disturbed by the person’s request. I understand that you are not alone in your view of how discussion forums work. However, whether TLS is run by a group or an individual, allowing the comments to this post is in flagrant violation of numerous halachos included under the ‘loshon hora’ and ‘ahavas yisroel’ banners. TLS’ facilitating their posting is essentially TLS facilitating an aveira-fest. And yes, I do understand that dozens of other discussion threads on unrelated posts are in violation of these halachos. However, I don’t read those comments. My only purpose in ‘trolling’ this discussion forum was because I am directly involved in the situation. The pain of what happened is immeasurable, and gossip and speculation only serve to magnify the horrific sense of loss and hurt that is already felt. Again, I conclude with a tefillah that Hashem not challenge you with so tragic a loss.

Rochel
Reply to  Avraham

‘Avraham,’ my apologies for causing you such discomfort. I was not the one who wrote the initial comment in this thread; although, I 100% agree with it. You’ll notice that I posted under ‘Rochel,’ while the first comment was posted by “Anonymous.’ That being said, I don’t think you fully comprehend what either of our posts were intending to accomplish. Without belaboring the point too much, allowing comments on this “news” posting allows for boundless loshon hora, sinas chinam, and chilul shem Shamayim to occur. If you can’t see that actively occuring throughout the comments on this post, I implore you to at least consider the following: A beautiful, young neshama was tragically lost. Can’t we at least allow the niftar’s family the space to grieve without adding extra layers of gossip, speculation, and painful jabs?!?

Is one allowed to ask?

I think it’s so sad. Westgate is such a calm community for something like that to happen. I’m not Jewish but they are human people just like everyone else. I drove a school bus in Westgate for a long time and the people are so nice. They are non violent people why would that happen. Only God would know. I wish I understood some words that Jewish people use.
