A child is lucky to be alive this evening after a school bus drove over a child as his mother watched, TLS has learned.
The incident occurred in Cabinfield Circle around 4:30 PM.
The 6-year-old boy was reportedly crossing in front of the school bus when he was knocked over by the bus, and then ran over. Police confirmed to TLS that they are investigating these reports.
According to TLS sources, the bus completely ran over the child as the mother and others watched, but luckily the child remained between the wheels of the bus. The child suffered some minor bruises and scratches, sources say.
The horrified mother and bystanders began yelling at the driver, who reportedly got off the bus, checked on the child and then left the scene.
Hatzolah treated the child, and then transported him to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Police tell TLS they are still investigating the incident, as they have not yet had contact with the bus driver.
UPDATE: 8:55 PM. Police say they made contact with the driver, and it remains unclear what the incident was.
However, according to several different sources we spoke with, the mother did indeed see the child under the bus, though it’s unknown why the bus driver left the scene.
One neighbor told TLS that the bus driver repeatedly denied that anything had happened. The driver then left the scene, and this neighbor attempted to stop him.
“I ran after him and said they want you to stop,” the neighbor told TLS. “If he knew what happened, he should be fired. If he didn’t, he should have stayed.”
The incident remains under investigation.

Wow thats horrible Driver should be charged than fired for leaving the scene!Hope the little boy is doing well
Isn’t this like leaving the scene of an accident if police had not spoken with the driver?
I am, as my screen-name implies, not given to wild knee-jerk rankings, but first of all who in their right mind allows this callous idiot of a driver leave the scene?? Cabinfield is a circle! All you have to do is Bloch the exit!
Secondly, if the story, after the corroboration is supported by the facts, he should be charged with a long list of crimes, not the least of which should be endangering the welfare of a child (and all the others in his care!).
And of course he should never get behind the wheel of ANY vehicle again!
(moderated)
Wow!! He left?!?! Hopefully, he will first be fired and then charged with leaving the scene of an accident. No regard for human life. Disgusting!
Thank God the child is ok. Prayers for the mother because as a mother I know the poor thing will be reliving this scene the rest of her life, Lastly, the driver should be ashamed of themselves for leaving the scene. and with the technology we have at our disposal these days there is no reason the police should not have had contact as the first thing they should have done was remove the driver from the bus so they could prevent anyone else from being injured!! Thanks Hatzolah for your swift reponse.
A bus driver was zooming through a busy narrow intersection in our development scratched my car and left the ran away. This bus drivers need to have some discipline.
I was in there i believe right after it happen. I came around the circle and could not grt thru do to they way they parked there cars, i called our dispatch to let them know i couldnt get thru, at that yime Hatzaloh came, the driver got out and asked me if i was involved in accident. I said no i just couldnt get thru. The driver and another person went looking to see who cslled the incident in. Not knowing a child got hit by a bus and the driver left the scene till i got home.
I agree, action does need to be taken, but as a bus driver for thirty years it only takes one bad apple to make us all rotton. Its not fair, i take pride in my safe driving. But we sll get looked down on. Some drivers will just never get that they are transporting other peoples children…
omg! every person’s biggest nightmare. terrible. Boruch hashem the child is okay!
Pray for my kid he’s on a school bus !
Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh! What a nightmare for any mother to see! Horrible. I Hope the driver doesn’t get away with that. And really jerry are you comparing a scratch on your car to a child’s life???
Thats not fairby Lazer.. It Is Not ALL drivers. I am offened.
Wow B”H! In reading this story I am overwhelmed by a feeling of gratitude. Ma ashiv LaH’. In simcha and thanks I put $18 in tzedaka for the zechus of this little tzadik and all the little tzadikim and their sisters! Just a little little something. Hashem Yishmerehem kulam.
Well you don’t understand what happened (at Least it will be the story of the bus company)
The bus driver saw the kids but he was in middle of the bus, so it was not a problem. When he went over the kid he checked if he was OK, but left to protect the other kids on the bus so they won’t have to deal with all the action and be scared of going on a bus.
This bus driver has been with us for 20 years, and we have never heard of him running over anyone. He is a great driver and everyone loves him.
Come on, does that make sense? Obviously no. Point being when the bus Company puts out their pr think about it.
With all the bus stories this year, I never heard a apology from the bus company.
As a bus driver myself , i have to say there are as many good and caring bus drivers out there from all companys as there is bad apples in every company. Some serve with pride and respect and some that lack respect and just dont care. Its sad, makes me want to consider another job field. But i sm glad to hear the child is doing well, and will be able to tell their story ( on the bus tomorrow ) .
Kathy Anderson,
We appreciate drivers like you and those bad apples do not negate the fact that my children have wonderful and safe drivers.
Keep up your great work!
As a mother, I cannot begin to fathom what sheer terror she experienced in those seconds. How much we have to thank Hashem for a tragedy averted… Kathy and other bus drivers here, besides for one bus driver one year I have only had positive experiences with each of my children’s bus drivers each year and my admiration for you guys who do your job safely, patiently and warmly only grows in proportion with Lakewood’s traffic.
I have seen my share of reckless bus drivers – and other drivers – as I stand at the bus stop, but I agree you shouldn’t all get a bad rap because of the rotten few.
We should all, bus driver, car driver, truck driver, etc. remember that lives are at stake when we take to the road and we should do all we can to protect those inside and outside our vehicles.
Kathy Anderson, I wonder if you are the Kathy that drove me home to forest Ave theough most of the 90’s. You were great.
Kathy is the best bus driver wish she drive my girls!!
Thanks everyone, just glad the child is ok and able to speak of this misfortune. Barach Hasheem
Kathy thank you you said it all for all the bus drivers out there who take care of there children on the bus I’ve been driving for 40 yrs and treat the kids on my bus as if they are my grand children. I go extra slow in all the developments because of all the kids that are in there. My biggest fear of driving a bus is god forbid i did run over a child. I would never drive a bus again. Kathy i’ve only known you for about 6 yrs and it has always been a pleasure working with you . keep up the good work
The bigger question is which bus company is this? Is there a protocol when something like this happens? Is this not only a terrible driver but also a bus company that needs to be reviewed which puts all of us at risk! Please post the company name
Thanks Pat , and you to be safe always. And its a pleasure to have you as a co worker. You know i try to put caution to the driver’s all the time. I would not and could not ever have something like this on my shoulders. You know how some drivers are , they think they know it all. But im here to say it can happen to the Best of us especially in the growing town of lakewood N.J. or as some people i know call it little Isreal.
Sadly all those drivers are horrible in lakewood i witness reckless driving on a daily basis horrible poor baby deserves justice
Kathy, you are right. We can never generalize to any whole group from one incident or one of the group.
I am so grateful to all my children’s bus drivers who have been wonderful year after year, for just about 25 years. My son’s bus driver this year is amazing!! Thank you all!
buses and cars both need to be moinetered for safe driving practices. it’s a zoo out there and getting worse. the laws must be obeyed to make us safe!
As a school bus driver for over 30 years, all children while they are on the bus are my kids. I will not move my bus until all children are seated (from primaries to high school). The driver of the bus that ran over the child should be fired and lose his or her CDL for life. I drive in Lakewood and witness horrible driving by not only the buses but also from people in their cars. This should be a wake-up call : SLOW DOWN BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED
Someone please explain why the bus company is never held accountable for these incidents. Note please don’t be a coward and just click the thumbs down button next to any post regarding this issue. Kindly respond in an intellectual manner.
People stay focused ; As Rabbi Avigdor Miller said on one of his tapes ; ” In life it’s not the obvious miracles that occur , but it is the daily near misses that we need to pay attention to.” Let the mayor , police & the lawyers deal with the punishment and retribution. Right now we need to use this in a positive way. Let the driver continue to drive. Let his bus be decorated in some obvious way to show his sorry and that his carelessness almost this child his life.
” Hodo L’HaShem Kee Tov , Kee L’olam Chassdo “
Thank you Kathy, pat and Linda and all the other bus drivers who take caution with our children. It is because of drivers like you we breathe easy during our day!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!
Yea go Kathy! #1 bus driver. if only the bus company wud hire more drivers we wud get kathy back!!
