A robbery suspect is in custody after a Lakewood police officer chased him into the water, TLS has learned
Shortly after 11:00 AM, the suspect allegedly robbed the Sunoco gas station in Lakewood, making off with the cash register.
Eyewitnesses pointed to police the direction the suspect was heading, and police flooded the area searching for the suspect.
Realizing police were on his tail, the suspect made a run for it, and jumped into a creek on Cedarbridge Avenue.
A Lakewood police officer gave chase, and caught up with him in the water, taking him into custody.

After the police officer finally nabbed the suspect, the latter reportedly muttered to himself, “Now I’m really up the creek!”
Seems a little excessive to run down a thief with around 20 officers on his tail.
C’mon the guy just needed a few bucks to buy a loaf of bread
