A blood trail took police to the doors of the men suspected of their involvement in last night’s stabbing, police said today.
As reported last night, officers were dispatched to 220 Second Street at around 11:30 PM last night for a reported stabbing at the El Oxaqueno Bakery.
“Upon arrival the officers learned that a 19 year old Jackson man was stabbed after a verbal altercation took place inside the business,” Detective Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith says. “The victim was then observed walking out with an unidentified man.”
A few minutes later the victim re-entered the bakery with an apparent stab wound to his stomach, Staffordsmith says. As a result, he was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his non life threatening wounds.
Further investigation, with the assistance of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit, resulted in the discovery of a blood trail.
“Officers followed the trail, leading them down a set of railroad track and ultimately to a home on Edgewood Court,” says Staffordsmith.
“Once there, the Officers were able to located two men believed to be involved in the stabbing.”
As a result, Det. Oscar Valmon and Officer Michael Mooney charged 24 yr old Esteban Morales Torres with Aggravated Assault and 19 yr old Daniel Morales Mexquititle was charged with Hindering and Simple Assault in connection to the stabbing. Both men resided in that home.
“Motive in this case nor the facts surrounding the argument are available at this time,” Staffordsmith said.
Bail was set on Torres in the amount of $35,000 Full and Mexquititle, $5,000 also Full.
