  1. When asked for his opinion of the Lakewood Police Department and to describe the partnership between the Lakewood police and the K9 crew, K9 Mello told reporters on Monday: “The truth is that policing in other US cities has gone completely to the dogs. But here in Lakewood, it’s just the opposite, the dogs have gone to the police and volunteered their services to help nab the crooks.”
“I make no bones about it,” Mello said, “working with the LPD is the ultimate treat for me.”
“I recently assisted the LPD with a blue-collar crime,” Mello said. “An armed robber snatched a blue collar from a dog’s neck. I was able to work hand-in-claws, and nose-in-nose, with police officers to sniff out the location of the thief and to return the blue collar to its rightful owner, Spotty.”
“Spotty is just one of thousands of Lakewood canines that I’ve been privileged to assist since I first arrived in this town and volunteered the services of my nose and razor-sharp teeth,” Mello said. “I can’t tell you how many times canines have approached me and thanked me for nabbing some intruders who were in the midst of burglarizing their dog houses and running off with their dog dishes.”
“Being a Lakewood K9 is a very rewarding job,” Mello said. “It’s a job that offers some of the best compensation in the canine job market – including some of the highest quality biscuits ever paid out to a canine employee!”
