BREAKING: Asbury Park Man Shot in West Gate After “Becoming Lost” in Lakewood

An Asbury Park man was shot in West Gate last night, TLS has learned.

Just before 10pm, Lakewood Police received a call from Ocean Medical Center advising that a gunshot victim had just arrived at their facility.

According to the victim, a 27-year-old Asbury Park man, he was on his way to Toms River, but unfamiliar with the area, he became lost and pulled into the West Gate complex.

“Once inside, he stated that an unknown suspect approached his vehicle and fired at least one round into his car, striking him in both arms,” police told TLS.

Both the victim and suspect fled the area.

The victim proceeded to drive himself to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

At this time, the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Det. Letts at 732-363-0200 or the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027.

  1. We know the the answer to that , locked the person up and take his gun abusing authority so now they wanted to killed unknown people and get away with it just like they took over the motherland!!!But if I shoot someone I go to jail.. Number one he should’ve never approached the vehicle,,if you see something say something

  2. How does “getting lost in lkwd” end you up in westgate? Westgate is so far away from the correct routes between Asbury Park & Toms River. And being that he’s 27 years old he didn’t have a gps on his phone? There’s obviously much more to this story that we all don’t know. Maybe possibly a drug deal gone bad?

  3. This is possibly the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read…

He was so lost and couldn’t find where he was going that he landed in Westgate, but after being shot he found a hospital.

He was shot with possibly one bullet, but was hit in both arms.

After being shot in both arms, he thought the best plan was to operate a vehicle, which requires hands and arm to use.

    Hmmmm…..

    • Bullets don’t work by magic. They work on science. A person shot with a bullet that missed (breaking) the bone or (severing) a nerve could very easily be able to drive.
Also, handgun bullets are not that powerful. It says he was shot by someone outside the car. If the bullet passed through a window that would use some of the bullets energy & the driver could’ve just sustained “flesh wounds.

      • Flying J: thanks for the science lesson. It sounds like you are intimately familiar with the science of weaponry. Did you major in shooting? Where did you receive your education?

        • An argument of authority is very weak.
I’ve always been into firearms, (am a college educated individual) & like learning about things I’m dealing with.
From owning a full size 9mm
          Compact 9mm
          AR-15 &
          12ga Shotgun
As well as shooting many different types of guns including full auto Uzis & 50cal full auto machine guns
          I think I know a think or 2.
Ammo matters as well from Hollow point+P ammo
          To soft tip AR ammo
To shotgun slugs & multiple size shot I think I know a thing or 2 to at least talk basics.

  4. I hope the injured person has a smooth and easy recovery.
That said, something about this doesn’t add up. Westgate isn’t the type of place you end up in by accident…
Next we will be hearing about someone getting ‘lost’ and ending up in someone’s driveway lol

  5. I’ve been in Westgate thousands of times never even seen a gun there and never seen crime other then that short spree of troubled teens making some noise so not sure this dude who somehow supposedly ended up there after getting lost knew where he actually was pretty fishy anyone who believes the story should go for him/herself and see if there’s people coming and just gunning people down at random this story is total (moderated).

  6. Drug deal gone wrong. He couldn’t call the cops but he drove around to find a hospital. Someone who gets shot and doesn’t call the cops and drives themselves to the hospital is code red for doing something illegal that they don’t want to involve the cops.
    This is stupid reporting

  7. Got lost and entered Gaza and got shot for nothing
Just because entered the wrong place
    Didn’t call the cops
Drove to the hospital like it was a normal scene and he just needed check up

Hopefully they investigate this guy really good and what was he doing in westgate

Hopefully we have some cameras to witness

  8. I think the police should verify that the victim was in fact in Westgate using surveillance camera footage. There is another complex called WestLAKE. I live in Westgate & don’t remember hearing any gunshots. So either it’s a drug deal gone bad, or he meant westLAKE, or he has some beef with Westgate & trying to put the neighborhood in a bad light. Something doesn’t add up. Good luck

  9. I second that, I also live in Westgate and didn’t hear any gunshots or screaming. Somebody would have had to hear something in sucha densely populated neighborhood. And if the guy was so hopelessly lost that he couldn’t figure out how to follow Route 9 to Toms River, how would he have found his way to Ocean Medical Center – while injured and possibly bleeding? I have gotten lost on my way there even with GPS and without any injuries.

  10. People end up in strange places all the time. My nephew lives in Westgate & learns in Kollel at BMG. One time driving home from Yeshiva he was so involved in the sugya that he didn’t realize he had driven all the way to the southern end of the NJ Turnpike. In a panic he called his Rebbe & asked if he was permitted to enter Joe Bidens home state of Delaware or must he make an illegal U-turn & receive a hefty ticket?
His Rebbe told him he may not enter Delaware under any circumstances as it’s maras Eyin that a Frum Jew supports Bidens liberal anti-Torah (especially strongly supporting the Zionists in their latest war) agenda.

  11. I heard the shot, saw the fully tinted blue car speed out of the end of North Crest towards the new central entrance and a confused guy come out of the block in a white hoodie
