BREAKING: An Earthquake Just Hit New Jersey – Did you feel it?!

An earthquake rocked New Jersey and New York moments ago.

According to preliminary information available, the earthquake measured 4.8 on the Richter scale.

Residents in the Lakewood region report they thought their home or office was collapsing.

Some were seen running out of buildings in Lakewood in fear of them collapsing.

“Our region just experienced an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7, with an epicenter near Readington in Hunterdon County,” Governor Murphy said.

“We have activated our State Emergency Operations Center. Please do not call 911 unless you have an actual emergency.”

  1. We live in the year of 2024 by now we should be aware of earthquakes ahead with so much technology, what happened? where are all these technology and alerts and warning ???? why do we have to be surprised ??

    • They just happen. There’s no real time to alert.
In places like Lakewood that experience earthquakes very rarely & of small magnitude there’s no reason to waste resources on it. How many houses collapsed (or suffered any damage) from this quake? How many roads buckled or have huge sinkholes? How many people lost power? How many fires are there from broken gas lines? I didn’t think so.

      • I’m thinking we should probably think about that. What this COULD HAVE been, and what it WAS, and what it WASN’T. And then… you, know, maybe focus on it for a half a second before we move on with our lives.

        • The largest earthquake in NJ recorded history was 241 YEARS AGO!
It was a 5.3 earthquake which falls into the “Often felt, but only causes minor damage” catagory.
How much time, money & resources should Lakewood spend on a nothing burger?
Should we require builders to spend thousands more building earthquake resistant houses like in California & pass that cost onto the buyer?

    • With all the crazy stuf happening in today’s world this is a rather minor natural occurrence, nothing to be alerted about even if it were possible

  2. Yes. I live on the border with Toms River and my house was shaking for about 30 seconds. The house does not shake from shooting at the base.

  3. Yes, I thought I was dreaming and kept looking for plane flying overhead but didn’t see or hear any and kept feeling the shaking and rumbling. Wow, thankfully we’re all ok bh in the Squankum area near Howell.

  4. Was in First Commerce Bank when the bank started to rumble – thought maybe it had to do with the train that just passed minutes earlier but then one of the bank managers came in and said I’m on the phone with my son who lives in Freehold and he saying the whole house is shaking.. realized that perhaps it was an earthquake..

  5. I called Boro Park and they got it worse! In Boro Park there are now emergency vehicles all over the place. I hope that there will not be any aftershocks.

  6. The Brocha of Oseh Maaseh Bereishis is made on an earthquake to remind us who is in charge. If you are going to get bogged down on “It is 2024, why we were not warned”, then you are missing the boat and G-d forbid we will need stronger reminders. WE ARE NOT IN CONTROL, time to listen to the messages Hashem is screaming into our ears.

  7. We were zocheh to a neis and we should think about that for a minute or two. This could have been catastrophic c”v and we were spared. a thank You to the One Who just gave us a small shake, not tumbling buildings, some tehillim, and a kabbalah would be appropriate.

  8. BH. Hashem is kind. We are all alright. May his blessing for a wonderful Shabbos be upon us and all Israel. May we be protected from natural disasters and man made disasters

  9. There is never any warning for earthquakes anywhere in the world. Earthquakes come from tiny movements in the Earth’s crust that happen over hundreds of years or more. There is no real way to model when those impossibly slow movements will lead to shaking. We can know that certain areas are likely to experience an earthquake at some point but we cannot say when it will happen.

  10. Live in Monsey, and my whole house shook back and forth one time. Heard the wood creaking and terrible rumbling sounds. I thought it was the boiler, so I ran down to shut it. some neighbors felt nothing.

  11. Quake centered near Lebanon, New Jersey, north of Whitehouse Station.
    Lebanon – proxy of Iran.
    White House.
Is this a message for the White House to WAKE UP to the dangers of Iran????

  12. no i was in my car….didnt felt anything
but epicenter is in lebanon usa interesting and something happened with an train a few month ago and it was in palestine usa
    hashem is sending messages….

  13. An astronomy sleuth that I follow has said that whenever there is an alignment of earth/Mercury/Neptune, which is now and especially on the day of the eclipse, that there are earthquakes on earth. The last alignment of this was in 1811, read about the New Madrid earthquakes 1811-1812. This same alignment came during 1811 as with Comet 12P Pons/Brooks, a lunar eclipse 2 weeks before a total solar eclipse. No joke! History is repeating itself. There are two other planetary alignments on the day of this year’s solar eclipse also: earth/Mars/Saturn, earth/Venus/Uranus. Some people are calling the Comet Kochav Yaacov. It now has a tail on it consisting of gas over 15 million miles long. It should be visible now to the left of the sun on the day of the eclipse and in some places it is visible now without binoculars or telescopes in the night sky. Here in Lakewood it would be visible in the western sky. It is quite possible that it could provide a brighter showing during the eclipse since it will be getting closer to the sun.

  14. I felt it but I wasn’t terrified because I have a concealed carry permit. No one’s going to hurt me now!
I meant I trust Hashem! I wouldn’t ever get a gun. You can’t even shoot an earthquake!

  15. I thought it was an unbalanced load in my washing machine. I had done a load of towels and sometimes this happens with towels. But when I ran upstairs I saw my machine load was finished already….

  16. It says in Navi that before Mashiach there will be earthquakes. We just had Taiwan. Now the strongest in NJ in 240 years. And the name of the city where it hit is Lebanon. The same name as the main country threatening Israel.
