  1. I must say what a shallow comment from “mo”. Any and all constructive critisim should be given after all parties are healthy, safe and home. Please don’t use this comment section to ” hear” your own voice. I wish all involved a speedy and complete recovery

  2. I was on route 9 in this area at 910 pm. Between county line road and rt 88 I saw at least 3 people cross in between blocks where there is not a cross walk. I have great headlights and drive slow through this corridor because of heavy foot traffic. Hoping that these folks make a full recovery. Since they can’t widen rt 9 there and they can’t have traffic lights every nite may I suggest some high output LED street lights ? They can be low light stands close to the road to illuminate the area a little. Everyone knows the visibility in this area is horrible. Ad to that a large population wearing mainly dark clothing and it’s inevitable these things will happen. Step up to the plate lakewood and put in some lighting. Federal grant maybe. ?? Whatever it takes.

  3. I dont know what happened, and wish all a healthy recovery. But i see people crossing all the time not in the crosswalks and trying to beat the cars coming by walk/running. The crosswalks are there for a reason and a lot of people do not use them.

  4. This beautiful family of three were at church in a kids service in second street Pentecostal church and we celebrated a birthday and we bless each other and departed to each other home ,I did get stuch in this traffic not knowing what happened and now my prayer with this Christian mom

  5. My sister Loida González and 2 babies please all I ask I you have faith pray God is in Control but I wonder if this car lights were on and how fast he was going to creat this damage? God have mercy

  6. May all have a speedy recovery. Looking at the picture on the left 6th from the bottom, just above the child’s shoe picture, it appears as if the street lights are not working at that intersection of Route 9 and Edgewood. That’s a serious problem on route 9 and other parts of this town.

  7. I don’t believe there is a crosswalk at the corner of Edgewood and Rt 9.

As for the lights someone mentioned above- town officials should take a trip into Brooklyn to learn what streetlights are meant to look like, especially when our town has the amount of people as a “city” and much faster speed limits and major roadways. We need BRIGHTER streetlights.

  8. Evelyn, I want to add: is there anything your sister or your family needs at this time? Maybe you can post here if there is anything we can do to help and the combined communities of Lakewood can join together. I would really like to help in any way I could. I am praying for them!

  9. I traveled rt 9 for 3 years between the hours of 8pm and 10 pm. I went the speed limit. Always mindful of the pedestrians. I can’t tell you how many times I did a break check because someone stepped out from the shadows while walking along the road or darted out from between cars to get across the road.

During that time additional lighting had been added but it wasn’t nearly enough for an area that has such a high pedestrian population. You are wearing all black with no lights or reflectors, accidents are going to happen and it wasn’t just the Jewish population. I hope mom n kids are okay.

LS, Do we really need to show all the pics? People were hurt. What is the point?

People want names of the victims? Really? Would you want your name out there? Ridiculous!

  10. It is obvious that you feel the need to vent. The victims in this tragedy are Hispanic not religious Jews. Also, when someone is ill or hurt, we pray for them. It is customary to include the name. There is more of a connection if you know the name of the person you are praying for.

  11. Prayers out to this family. So sad to hear. It doesn’t matter whose fault it was – it happened. Again I pray for their quick recovery. Can’t imagine this happening to my family.

  12. We are all mankind and when there is pain in one family there is pain in all our hearts. May the people in the accident recover quickly from their wounds and may good fortune surround all.

  13. As a parent who walks a lot( in the day) never at night with my 3 childrenit upsets me that a woman and her children that come from such a church that call themselves brothers and sisters as what the lady who wrote above meant didnt offer her and her children a ride even if they had no car seats to take them they would of been safer than on the streets at this time. Glad my church is half an hour and at decent hours. People spend so much time for no reason. Now this tragedy has happened. Can’t blame me for being upset as a mom I see sooooo many doing stupid things while walking driving or on your bike use sidewalks that’s what they are for. Don’t cross the street until you see no cars. I m serious. Its just to dangerous. Drivers stay off your phones I pull over when I get a phone call or tell my daughter to get it or ignore it. Like it said dnt bash me these facts are true. Be safe at all times for your sake and your families sake Life is precious and may be gone in an instant with one stupid mistake. Always drive the speed limit never over!!!!!

  14. Rte. 9 has to be made more “pedestrian friendly” somehow, because people live up and down along its corridor and have to be able to cross the street. I don’t think it should have more lights, though. People MUST wear reflectors at night and street lights must be working! Even a baby stroller could have reflectors on it.

  15. Lives were almost lost and religion is all people talk about. Two children are critically injured and their mother. The most important thing other than prayers is for the people who did this to come forward. Don’t hide behind the” community”. Be respectful and admit your wrong. If it were your family, how would you feel. Prayers going out.

  16. The State and Lakewood need to install better lighting and traffic calming measures.
Drivers need to slow down and be alert as Lakewood has a large walking community.
Speedy recovery to all involved. I am sure the family appreciate all the prayers and support.

  17. Jd- religion is certainly not the topic here. No one is hiding behind any ‘community’ nor being disrespectful.

If you find that’s the case, perhaps you should find yourself another blog to be part of, that’s more respectful.

(Some people always have something to complain about- always.)

  18. To Evelyn,I am praying for your sister and her children. May G-d send them a speedy recovery. I am shaken by this tragic accident and deeply wish for the children’s recovery. No one walks at night with their kids unless they have no choice (do not have a car or babysitter).

To my Jewish brothers and sisters – it is important to pray for their speedy recovery! The power of tefillah is a gift from Hashem that we should give from our heart to every human being.

  19. Route 9 is a major state highway with speeds up to 50 mph. At approximately 10 PM it is very dark. When a pedestrian with 2 small children (at least one in a baby carriage) crosses that road at that time at a section of the highway that is not brightly lit and not intended for crossing.. Then the question becomes, what were they thinking or expecting?? Would they also cross the garden state parkway like that where the speeds are at 55 mph??

Sometimes small mistakes lead to very unfortunate circumstances that seem much larger in scale to the mistake. But the true measure of any mistake is in the size of the potential consequence.

My heartfelt wishes are extended to the pedestrian family for a full and speedy recovery. I would like to also extend a comforting arm to the driver for the terribly traumatic experience he is most certainly enduring at this time.

Furthermore, I plead with the State highway authority to implement the long-needed redesigning of the highway to provide better traffic and safety measures for both pedestrian and drivers. It has been long LONG overdue for this dangerous roadway.

  20. I can’t believe the ignorance among these comments, some people don’t have a choice but to walk and everyone acts as if all drivers respect pedestrians. Speaking from experience I lived on that steet reckless drivers just don’t car of others safety. Almost all will just speed by and ignore that some peole have to get to the other side of the street. And everyone acts as if they never crossed the street where there wasn’t a crosswalk. All these ignorant comments are pointless to end it here I hope the family for a quick recovery and my prayers are with their family.

  21. I really think the speed limit through Lakewood needs to be reduced to 25 MPH because of the huge population in Lakewood. Then enforcement of speed limit is necessary. I hope this family has a speedy recovery.

  22. Dear TLS: would it be possible in the future to write details about the ethnicity and other details of the victims instead of us having to scroll thru all the comments in hopes of getting more info? thanks

  23. No one thought to say thnk u to all of the crew that had to film, and take pictures to keep us updated in this tragedy and stay outside long hours. Thnk u lkwd scoop, and all who helped. My mother also was asked about the lighting and accidents on this street or around this street. Yes this road(edgewood) is notorious for bad luck. Need blessings and prayersfrom hashem G-D bless all

  24. @JD nobody from our “community” lives in toms river so sorry to debunk your racist theory. By reading your comment I couldn’t help but to notice the sincerity in your words calling for the guy who did this to be “respectful”and “admit he’s wrong”. I’m not sure how many worss your brain can handle at once so im going to try andmake this simple.
    #1 he wasn’t wrong
#2 the cops showed up and he dealt with the situation at hand
#3 karma is gonna swing around and hit your ignorant mouth so hard your dentist is gonna retire.
Im sick and tired of people saying passive aggressive remarks about our “community” we have nust as much of a right to do dress and say whatever we want. If you got a problem with what we do then move. I promise you won’t be missed by us. The time is going to come when your first encounter with a non-submissive jew will accur and I promise they won’t be passive back. If you don’t understand what I wrote I’ll translate it into stupid for you. Don’t be stupid.
