The Board of Education made a breakthrough in the way special services are rendered in the school system. The board Thursday night voted to split ‘192’ and ‘193’ services (192 is Reading/Math and 193 is Speech Therapy), giving schools the option to choose the speech therapists from the vendors of their choice. Until now, the services could not be split and schools were obligated to use the same vendor for all 192/193 services.
“Many schools have expressed an interest in using another vendor for speech services, as some of the other approved vendors have proven to have a highly qualified speech program”, a Board member tells TLS.
The board’s breakthrough vote becomes effective immediately. TLS.
Under NJ Law you are not aloud to do this.
Side Note In a public meeting forum you first have the public speak then you vote look at the laws.
To anonymous #1- “aloud” means “out loud” so as to be heard. “Allowed” means to permit. Just thought I’d correct that since we are, after all, discussing the school system.
Again, business as usual. Are they deciding for us or can we have some input as well?
Good thin you are aloud to post without knowing how to spell.
These new BOE guys are fabulous. They are taking away the monopoly from the old guard, one piece at a time.
On behalf of the silent majority, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
More choice is better, but you will still see some comments here that are aginst this great move by the BOE.
Why? Who can possibly be against “more choices”? Are these comments perhaps coming from those special interests who are losing out because their monopoly is being broken by the new BOE?????
Hmmmm….
I understand the pros of splitting the two, but what are the cons?
To 5
Your implying that the pro comments about the new BOE are coming from themselves
The new board memebrs are amazing.
They are breaking down the monoploty one piece at a time.
There is no harm to giving a choice.
If the current venodr is up to par, there will be no need to the schools to choose another vendor.
However, if they are not up to par, then this will be a great improvement for our children.
#2, What’s the downside? They are adding rights, not removing them.
the grass is always greener on the other side…

In what way are my words inplying that? Any sane rational person would agree with this great move by the BOE. It is giving the schools and parents more choices.
No sane, rational person would write comments against this great move. Unless, of course, he has what to lose from this great move. And the only people who have what to lose are those who were gaining when the old monopoly was in place, and are now losing because their precious monopoly is being taken from them.
The pro-comments, on the other hand, are coming from the rest of us taxpayers/ parents/ mosdos/ voters/ Lakewood residents/ etc.

Of course the grass is always greener on the other side. But at least there will now be choices. Until now, everyone had fewer choices, and the only people who gained were you and your monopoly.
I understand that it hurts that not everyone will be forced to use your monopoly. But everyone else will gain, and they will be able to choose. You will have to work harder so that people choose you, like any other business. Everyone gains. The people have choices, and the services are better because you will be working harder to earn the people’s business.
Good move BOE!
number eight your right on the mark!!!
“Again, business as usual. Are they deciding for us or can we have some input as well?”
You vote for them so that they can decide to let you decide, and you still have a problem? What do you want?
Keep it going “one step at a time.” Have courage and the confidence to know that you are moving in the right direction, regardless of negative voices.
There is hope for the Lakewood School District.

To # 12 Timmy Russo:
Sir, you missed the point. Can we ( the public = taxpayers) ask questions? Or did we elect the Board to do everything for us. I was brought up that if a question is asked in a respectful manner then it is proper.
Your comment indicates otherwise and that is the problem here in Lakewood.
Timmy, the people want this. Parents wish that there would be more choices.
The BOE have made great changes but still no contract for the teachers. Again they go back with less money. they now pay the second tear for their medical. also a tear for their pension. There is no contract for the teachers again, the BOE need to end this long problem going on 3 years… enough settle
My understanding is , it is very hard to sustain a Speech program without the other program.
To #20 my understanding
Sir, you don’t understand the programs, hence your name. This is one good option and should be tried. Up until now 192 / 193 was a failure. Maybe with other choices the children will benefit.
