The Lakewood Board of Education will hold a Special Meeting on February 11 to discuss to the failed referendum, the district said today.
“The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the failed Referendum and the next steps towards a solution to the Transportation Crisis, the Board announced.
As earlier reported, the $6,200,000 referendum was voted down by a landslide of about 98% to 2%.
Guest speakers will include the District Auditor, Board Counsel and the District’s Transportation Consultant.

The main focus of this meeting will be when to have the next meeting.
Evryone (seniors, public school community, and private schools commmunity) should work together on getting the state formula. Until then, nothing will cnage. We will always be a $ starved school district.

How is it that they can’t afford to bus the children but they can afford to promote 2 clerks to assistant transportation managerial positions with substantial raises, hire an administrative assistant directly for the new transportation manager, hire 2 more clerks to replace the two that were promoted, hire a full time maintenance guy for the buses and hire a supervisor of special ed transportation plus the special ed clerk (all from within, positions were never publicly posted). How many assistants does the new transportation manager need??!! Last but not least they are looking to purchase 2 new buses. Mr. Azzara, Mr. Shafton who’s side are you really on?
Now would be the perfect time for the askunim in Lakewood to write a public letter to Cristie on behalf of all Lakewood tax payers who are obviously on the same page regarding state funding. Also once on the topic, school vouchers should be thrown in. Then create a media blitz about it where he is forced to discuss this on the campaign trail.

Why does the elected Board of Ed still exist? We have an anointed Czar who makes all the decisions by fiat.

Also after all the above the mechanic will need an office worker to answer the phone order parts. The office will need a computer, printer, phone system…… and it keeps going. Remember this is a government position and the price tag just keeps going up.
Why should the state change the funding and formula just for Lakewood? Why should the rest of the state pay for the problem that Lakewood got itself into?
Lakewood really needs to hire somone for P.R. to explain the real situation and how we are being ripped off by the state.
The press and blogs are fill of clueless people blaming the shortfall on mismanagement, “tax exempt houses”, and courtesy busing for private schools.
The town needs to do something to fight the lies, or they will have a hard time getting any support at the State level.

How about offering parents of kids who would otherwise lose bussing the option of paying the BOE to keep their kids on their current bus routes through the end of the school year? This will help the BOE not have to restructure each route and raise funds to partially cover the cost of each route.
