BOE: Busing Will Resume Monday For Afternoon Run

bus_squeezing_through_in_snow_tlsUPDATED 10:05 p.m: Board Of Education member Chesky Seitler has confirmed to TLS that busing will resume Monday for all schools. The decision comes as officials reassessed the roads and deemed them safe enough for bus travel, Seitler said. Additionally, Public Schools will re-open tomorrow but will be on a 90 minute delay he said.

On Wednesday, officials from the BOE, DPW, Police and School administrators met at the Public Works headquarters to discuss the issue, as reported on TLS. It was then decided that busing would be cancelled until further notice.

Some schools with their own busing, were operating today. TLS.

UPDATE 6:55 p.m. BOE Member Chesky Seitler has just advised TLS that there will be a 90 minute delay in all busing, and that parents are urged to call their school’s ‘snow hotline’ for their bus schedule.

The 90 minute delay is due to the 90 minute delay by surrounding towns which share busing with Lakewood.

Some schools may cancel morning busing but nevertheless begin school on time.

UPDATE: 10:05 p.m. Most – if not all – boys schools are beginning on time, with no morning busing, but many girls schools will begin 90 minutes late. Parents are urged to confirm the schedule with their school’s dedicated ‘snow hotline’

  1. I guess that means all the schools (public and private) have a 90 minute delay or there is no bus service in the morning. Is this correct?

  2. Why doesn’t anybody shovel the snow in front of their house? When the township takes 2days to clean up everybody is up in arms. Now its a week later and it seems hardly anyone shoveled the sidewalk in front of their house. Not shoveling the sidewalks is just as much of sakana for children than not plowing the streets!

  3. I agree with # 4. I think it shows a lack of middos when I have to begging people on my block to shovel their sidewalk, so my kids can walk to the bus stops. Also people who live on corners need to be aware that there needs to be a plac for the kids to stand on the corner.

  4. the headline should be NO BUS Tomorrow as both my girls and boys don’t have bus very smart of the BOE for parents to sit in traffic for a hour.Lets hope LPD gets some power out to direct traffic

  5. Could someone clarify the busing availability for the private schools? I do have to work in the morning and need to know if I have to arrange for a carpool for my boys.

  6. to #7 : The BOE decides on the bussing. They made a decision to have a 90 minute delay for all busses in Lakewood. The private schools can either take the busses with a 90 minute delayed start, or they can tell the parents to bring their children to school on time in their own cars. Call your sons’ school and find out what they decided to do.

  7. to #10: My daughter’s school (Bais Kaila) IS having busses with a 90 minute delay. Any school can do the same. The busses are available but they will be late. Thank you Bais Kaila.

  8. I’m wondering if anybody ca enlighten us as to if there is bussing why does there have to be a ninety minute delay? What purpose does it serve?

  9. Bnos Rivka is starting on time and is therefore not having busing. Since Bnos Rivka parents do not use the internet they probably will not see this so if you know anyone who sends their children to Bnos Rivka please tell them.

  10. To #5. The corners are almost impossible to be clear for kids to stand. The way they clear the corners in this town is by dumping all the snow right on the sidewalk blocking the entire corner with huge piles of snow, ice and slush which are not humanly possible to clear by hand.

  11. I read TLS earlier and saw there was busing. If I didn’t check it again, I would never know about the delay. This is the job of the schools and class mothers to inform the parent body of the school. Lots of people don’t have internet, and are left in the dark. So principals do your jobs and start keeping the parents more informed! Thank you

  12. most of the private routes are the second rout for these bus drivers.
they first do the Public schools and then they pick up for private schools.

personaly if they would not allow these bus drivers to make 2-3 runs in such a short period of time our roads would be much safer.

in addition, i somewhat enjoyed the past week not seeing so many speedy drivers.

  13. finally, someone has brought up the issue of clearing bus stops! let’s see each block organize a neighborhood “shovel-out” the places our precious children wait for their bus! let’s think..aren’t our values a little mixed up when most everyone made time to dig out their cars while leaving bus stops still piled with snow! children are forced to wait in [often dangerous] street corners. people,if you really care..you’ll make time.

  14. i wish they would cancel busing until everyone shovels their bus stops………we are all to busy to spend 15 min shoveling…..or to cheap to hire our friends on second street(Langert i said second not Clifton.

get out there and shovel before …………….

  15. This doesn’t make any sense. Look around. The snow was melted by yesterday’s rain. There is obviously some very fishy stuff going on in Lakewood, with the Township, Board of Ed etc… The way this entire blizzard was handled does not make any logical sense. Please explain the true facts!!!

  16. dont post faulty info just to try to be the first to report. i saw on your site that there is bussing went to sleep got up and waited at the bus stop for fifteen minutes. not everyone checks for updates every hour. next time wait for the whole story and youll be more helpful

  17. #20 says “…personaly if they would not allow these bus drivers to make 2-3 runs in such a short period of time our roads would be much safer…”

I agree with you. Just think how many runs could be eliminated if boys & girls could ride the same bus. As you said, the less runs the safer the roads.

  18. some of these roads are 1 1/2 lanes busses and cars cannot fit. some of the developments I tried to get into this morning people had their driveways shoveled but CHOOSE to park in the street, NOT SMART! BTW there was bussing just delayed 90 minutes so if you CHOOSE to get in your car and take your kids to school don’t blame us!

  19. Wall township school still closed. I am very happy Lakewood decided to close schools last week for childrens safety. I know parents wanted to get rid of there children not caring about safety.

  20. to # 27
you need to take care of your children. If everyone would do this we can save millions on bussing which will result in lower taxes.

  21. believe it or not more than 20 years ago when I went to school, the boys and girls would go on the same bus, girls were in the front and boys in the back (or maybe it was the other way around, I dont remember).

  22. #27…. Just wondering….
Why do you call yourself Tori “COURT”???
The street was changed a looooooooong time ago to Tori DRIVE!!!
