Lakewood’s Department of Public Works did their job properly during this first massive storm under its new Director, Pat Donnelly, a poll on TLS shows.
According to the poll conducted the first night after the blizzard, approximately 26% say the DPW did a “Fair” job, and approximately 57% say the Department did a “Great” job on the cleanup.
“I’m extremely pleased with how the staff stepped up to the plate,” Donnelly told TLS during the storm, but added that it was a collective effort and team support from the Mayor and the Township Committee members.
Committeeman Lichtenstein said Donnelly’s job so far has been very impressive.
“We’ve gotten a lot of positive comments about the cleanup,” Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein said in the aftermath. “There’s an obvious change in the DPW, and it’s obvious that our new director is taking the storm very seriously – and very committed to cleaning our streets, doing what has to be done – as one would expect. Of course some issues have to be ironed out, but he’s extremely responsive,” Lichtenstein said.

Apparently 84% of the voters did not drive down any of the side streets / developments
I think the initial clean up was better than anything Lakewood has seen in years. However there was an expectation (set by Public Works) that they were going to continue the last few days to plow the additional mounds of snow, not just the streets that were cleared. Mail boxes are blocked by mounds of snow, sidewalks that were shoveled have been plowed back in with the basic plowing and there is hardly any places for children to wait for their busses.
you can’t do a perfect job with so much snow! They did great considering the circumstances. It is amazing how everyone wants the perfect job!
Let All Devolopments have There own snow cleanup for street sand side Just like our Senior D have. Fairways Enclave Eagle Ridge etc. thanks
That would be fair if developments get a brake on property taxes, but we don’t – so we deserve the same service as the rest of the town.
Far from great. The developments are not properly plowed.
Regent Dr needs to be done closer to the curb. There’s a good 4-5 feet of snow from the curb into the street. Also the corner of Central and Regent is really dangerously full of snow. Hard to turn onto Regent. Thank you!!!
Getting in and out of my development down the 9 is an extreme exercise in defensive driving. A 3 car wide entrance is down to 1 1/4 wide and it is a pileup waiting to happen. The rest of the development is not much better.
A drive around town tells me I’m in good company.
Had they picked up leaves and brush on time, like they could’ve/should’ve, then it would have been a great job. The actually plowing doing by the subcontractor services was great. They just couldn’t plow the entire street due to all the debris the township public works left in place.
they did down the middle of my block on Thurs. and I was able to get out of my driveway after I shoveled my way into the street. They came back yesterday and got closer to the curbs. I have no complaints
where do you vote?
Many were told to leave cars off the road over Shabbos and couldn’t oblige a basic necessity in order to solve the overall crisis. We only react when it affects us – simple.

You can’t have it both ways. Either we do what’s needed and work together to solve the issue at large or we do our own thing and pay the price and then wining about it.
Everyone has their own point of view, (of what others have done incorrectly or failed to do) which is clearly indicative of the overall problem!
