  1. Car drivers need to look out for cyclists
I can’t count how many times i have seen drivers at a red light texting as they wait for the light to turn green. As soon as they see its green they speed off without looking left and right.
Drivers please look out for bike riders.
Bike riders please follow the traffic laws of riding in lane, passing legally, hand signals, wearing reflective gear and a helmet.

  2. # 1 I don’t understand If the car has a green light why is a bike going In front of him
The problem is that bicyclist think they own the road

  3. #2 well said. People always rush to the blame the driver without knowing the facts. And of course once its the drivers fault it must’ve been the cell phone.

  4. There is no indication from this accident, where the cyclist or the car was. Yes it’s true that there are people riding a bike that don’t know the laws, but as a both a car driver and a cyclist I will tell you that there are many car drivers that are ignorant of the laws governing the sharing of the road to cyclists. Also, car drivers need to be aware that because of the poor condition of the roads, that its not always possible for a cyclist to be all the way to the right where you as a car driver want them to be. You need to be patient and slow down until its safe to pass. Unless they have music blasting in their ears, they will hear your car tires, there is no need to honk your horn. Usually they will want to get out of your way as soon as they can….although its possible that there are cyclists who aren’t being as courteous as they should…it’s usually the car drivers that aren’t being courteous. They don’t “own” the road either.
As a car driver, it does make me crazy to see unprotected heads of cyclists driving facing traffic…usually goes together. A helmet is a very cheap insurance. Either way, I hope he has a quick recovery.

  5. Regardless who is at fault, maybe both. A lawyer will be Intouch with the bicycle guy for a few dollars. After having a drunk bike rider ram me while stopped at a red light, although I was not ticketed blame was put on both of us and within days I got a notice from a personal injury lawyer. My insurance took care of and I was happy no one was really hurt and no ticket, and oh yeah nice dent on my fender and had to replace my smashed winshield.
BTW the insurance company told me his place of residence was tent city.

Well said. The helmetless cyclists in this town drives me nuts.As do the many adolescents who are commuting to and from shul or to and from school.Parents have to take the initiative. Please purchase helmets, reflective gear, pannier packs (for hats tefillin sforim food etc).
A bike is a vehicle and a cyclist is a driver, please spend the money.
    Helmets cost between $20-$40 dollars
    reflective tape $5
