Authorities are investigating after a Lakewood resident found a bullet hole in his home, with the projectile ending up inside a mattress.
Officials tell TLS they responded to the home after the homeowner reported finding the bullet hole in his wall, and upon arrival, authorities located the projectile lodged inside the mattress.
The homeowners and neighbors say they constantly hear shooting coming from a neighboring Howell residence, and believe that this projectile was fired from that property as well.
”The homeowner is now afraid to put their children to sleep,” a neighbor told TLS.
Askonim in Lakewood also told TLS that Bachurim from a nearby Mesivta are also afraid, because “who said this won’t happen again? This could have been deadly.”
Authorities tell TLS the home they believe it came from is legally allowed to shoot on his property, but they are conducting an investigation into this incident, as it is now apparent it isn’t safe.
Howell Police tell TLS they are working with Lakewood and County officials on the investigation.
the bullet hole to mattress trajectory doesn’t make sense unless this bedroom is ground floor and this was near deliberate, how far from that wall is the property line?
The bullet trajectory will drop significantly once it starts losing velocity, which is what will happen when the bullet hits something like a wall…
the projectile does not have any marks from passing through drywall or any misshape to it as it usually does after passing through different barriers also why blame Howell when you can blame Toms River? Hey maybe it even came from Lakewood who knows.
Looks like a .223 FMJ (probably from an AR-15)
Where in Howell roughly cause I live there and want to know if nearby – every so often I hear booms not sure if gunshots or fireworks
