The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has classified a recall covering more than 4.3 million tubes of toothpaste sold nationwide, including children’s character brands such as Barbie, Hot Wheels, Crayola Silly Scents and My Little Pony.
The recall was initiated September 10 by India-based manufacturer Pritam International Private Limited and was classified by the FDA as Class II on October 19. The stated reason is Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) deviations, meaning the products were not manufactured in compliance with federal quality standards.
A Class II recall is used when a product may cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, or when the probability of serious health consequences is remote. No press release was issued for this recall, and it remains ongoing.
The 17 recalled products, totaling 4,301,700 tubes, were distributed nationwide under the Brush Buddies, evo and ARU brand names, all manufactured for Ontario, California-based Ashtel Studios Inc.
Parents can check a tube at home by matching the brand, UPC code and lot number printed on the packaging against the FDA’s list:
