Lakewood, a town synonymous with Chesed, is getting ready again – this time to host residents fleeing Hurricane Irma.
As the Category 5 hurricane threatens the lives and homes of Florida residents, families are moving out – as far as they can get before Shabbos.
TLS has learned that numerous Frum families are heading up North – as far as Lakewood.
“If they reach the New Jersey area by tomorrow, we will make sure they have where to stay for Shabbos,” one Askan told TLS.
One family from Miami tells TLS he’s packing up his family with some basic belongings, and just moving out.
“I plan to try to head to Chicago, if not, I will have to drive and see how far my tank gets me – to Orlando, Jacksonville, Atlanta or possibly Baltimore,” one resident told TLS.
Hurricane Irma comes just days after Harvey slammed Texas, prompting an outpouring of support from residents of Lakewood and around the Country.
Multiple families from Lakewood have told TLS they are ready to host guests if needed.
Should the need arise, TLS will post all pertinent information.
Is there a number to call to offer to host for Shabbos? I have 3 guest rooms in my house and would gladly host a family or 2 for Shabbos.
Me too
we have a 3 bedroom basement that is possibly available. is there a number to call?
We thank lakewood for opening their homes but anyone traveling that far is because they have family there. If they only wanted to leave they would go to Atlanta which is half the trip.
