An Important Safety Message from Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles

Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles moments ago released the following safety message to TLS.

School is back in session and this year we have more children walking than in previous years.

I am asking everyone to be more vigilant and alert when behind the wheel. Many younger children will be walking distances by themselves for the first time. It is very important that we take our time, avoid distractions and pay close attention when children (and adults) are present.

I hope everyone has a wonderful school year ahead.

It is time to put speed hump Bumb at all school area and reduce speed the speed limit is too high in school zone area. It’s also time to crack down on illegal parking in fire zones, fire hydrants, and on corners too close to the curb, which causes huge problems for oncoming traffic and is visually dangerous. Lakewood Police have to do something to end this problem immediately!! People even park on the grass and sidewalk. What is this township allowing ?? This is extremely dangerous to our community and children!! Wake up, Lakewood Township. BMG has to build parking garages, stop building, and build parking garages on all your campuses to keep students off the street. It is getting life-threatening now, and it’s not a joke.

Why is this BMG’s issue?
There are plenty of people who are not affiliated with the yeshivah who are moving in and adding to the overpopulation issue.
Sinas haTorah is real.
Maybe move to Israel- there are lots of like-minded people there for you.
You can join them in terrorizing innocent students who happen to be holding up the world.

Maybe we can get more cops on food and bikes. Just to have a presence around I believe would help out in this situation.

Dear Mr Mayor

can we have the walk signal for pedestrians turn on before it turns green for cars at all intersections
so turning vehicles can better notice pedestrians crossing
and it gives them a better chance to cross the street safely
they have this in Brooklyn NY and by 70/vermont

Everyone needs to just leave an extra few min earlier. If you are running late, better to arrive late than CH”V not at all.
Also, just as important is not trying to illegally pass a car or bus that is stopped.

How can I leave to work early?
My daughter does not have busing and her school refuses to open the doors before 9:00
I have to be at work at 9, so yes I am in a rush

There are many areas in Lakewood that have a speed limit of 40 mph because many years ago that street maybe had 1 or 2 families living on that street, however, today that same street has 30 families now and the speed limit is still 40. Does that make any sense?????

Adults should take turns walking the younger children to school. Vigilant, responsible eyes go a long way.

Perhaps we can have more crossing guards at intersections near the schools.
