Agudah Salutes President Obama For His Unwavering Support of Israel’s Security

[LETTER] Agudath Israel of America’s executive vice president Rabbi David Zwiebel sent a letter today to President Barack Obama, saluting his unwavering support of Israel’s security.

You can view the letter here.

The President – several occasions throughout the most recent middle-east conflict Operation Pillar of Defense, has clearly stated his stance on the conflict, saying Israel has a right to defend itself.

The President also placed the blame of the conflict on Hamas, who has shot over 1,000 rockets into Israel in the last week itself.

  1. Who are they kidding? Get real, we backed Romney for a reason. Did anyone notice when the” sudden escalation of violence” started?? It’s not because rockets were on sale at Palmart. Right after Obama won reelection the Arabs lost any fear of American intervention and started intense bombardment. Let’s see Obama really DO something, like get Egypt and Iran in line. Gimme a break

  2. The US should mind her own affairs and not interfere with what is going on in other countries. We have enough problems at home to deal with instead of sticking our noses in other peoples problems. It doesnt have anything to do with us so just let it go.

  3. The US cannot ignore the Middle East. I recall in my 20th century foreign policy course as a student of Government at the University of Texas in 1982, that the United States has vital interests in the security of several nations in the world. About twenty years ago, I read in Richard Nixon’s book, “Seize the Moment,” that peace in the Middle East is in the vital interest of the United States. Conflict in the region undermines the Carter Doctrine (any invasion into a Persian Gulf country is an act of war against the US) with the potential to destabilize American interests.

Nixon wrote that US support of Israel, contrary to conventional wisdom and what I was taught by Professor Divine at UT, was not part of the Cold War and was against US strategic interests—but only existed because the American people have a historic affinity to the land and its people.

  4. May I suggest as a goy that Israel literally starve out Hamas and all its allies. I’m not a expert on the Tanach but I’ve read where in Deuteronomy Chapter 20, verse 19 the following:

” 19 When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by wielding an axe against them; for thou mayest eat of them, but thou shalt not cut them down; for is the tree of the field man, that it should be besieged of thee?
20 Only the trees of which thou knowest that they are not trees for food, them thou mayest destroy and cut down, that thou mayest build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it fall. {P} ”

    לְתָפְשָׂהּ, לֹא-תַשְׁחִית אֶת-עֵצָהּ לִנְדֹּחַ עָלָיו גַּרְזֶן–כִּי מִמֶּנּוּ תֹאכֵל, וְאֹתוֹ לֹא תִכְרֹת: כִּי הָאָדָם עֵץ הַשָּׂדֶה, לָבֹא מִפָּנֶיךָ בַּמָּצוֹר.
    כ רַק עֵץ אֲשֶׁר-תֵּדַע, כִּי-לֹא-עֵץ מַאֲכָל הוּא–אֹתוֹ תַשְׁחִית, וְכָרָתָּ; וּבָנִיתָ מָצוֹר, עַל-הָעִיר אֲשֶׁר-הִוא עֹשָׂה עִמְּךָ מִלְחָמָה–עַד רִדְתָּהּ. {פ}

Rashi comments were and I quote: “Here, {Hebrew Ref} is understood as “perhaps.” ‘Perhaps the tree in the field is a man, to be included in your siege, and suffer famine and thirst along with the city’s inhabitants?263 Why must you destroy it?'”

B’vah’chah’shah, someone verify the above and tell Israel to do this!!! B’vah’cha’shah,

Toddah rabbah, a goy, Gerry Mullen

  5. “unwavering support ” ? really???? seems to me I recall our wonderful leader had wanted Israel to revert back to the borders prior to the 1967 war. Anybody remember that? The only reason Obama has referred to Israel as a great ally is because the U.S. needs Israel’s intelligence and like it or not, the U.S. is indebted to Israel for being instrumental in carrying out operations within the middle east.

  6. really??

The sad thing is that everyone knows that eventually there are going to be 2 states roughly on the 67 borders. I’d be willing to bet my house on the fact that in 30-40 years that’s what we’ll have.
But until then how much blood needs to be shed? Why is that such a taboo to say? Half of Israel agrees on this and Ehud Barak was ready to sign that into being in 2000.
So why is it so evil for Obama to state that as a goal?
