UPS is stepping up security measures during the holiday season by requiring government-issued photo ID to verify customer identity. All customers who make a shipment through any retail location without a pre-printed shipping label attached must show a photo ID, according to a statement released today by the company.

“Since retail centers experience a significant increase in business from occasional shippers during the busy holidays, this enhancement adds a prudent step in our multi-layered approach to security,” said Dale Hayes, UPS vice president of small business and retail marketing, in a written statement. ”
