Letter: Hi, I was in Lakewood on January 8 and I saw a girl crash into a pole at the entrance of the Co-op on Rt 88 as I was driving by.
After seeing the crash, I couldn’t remember the Hatzolah phone number, so I started to sing the song (In an emergency…) and as I got to the numbers 732-370-3600, I punched them into my phone. It was amazing that the song really worked!
Then the dispatcher called me back because apparently the girl drove away and the responders didn’t see her. I don’t know if they ever found her or if she called herself later, but the incident taught me the power of a song.
Just thought you’d appreciate hearing this story.
All the best,
Mrs. Greenberg
Same here. I only know Hatzola number by singing the song.
We had a shmiras haloshon class back when I was in high school and every week we had a Halacha quiz. But near our name we needed to write the phone number for the Halacha shailos hotline. If we didn’t we lost a point.
I think it would be beneficial if teachers did that with Hatzola’s number. If every child has even one teacher in their life that does this for a year – they will hopefully remember it in their sleep!
To just a thought: love that idea- u never know what life u may save by instating that!
Gevalt – the Koach of a niggun.
I was once asked by a producer to make a series of albums, putting several pesukim of certain Perakim of Tehillim, which are not well known to many of us, to song. Making “tehillim zuggen” much easier for the masses.
I’m still not sure why I said no….
May I recommend that you program the number into your contacts so you don’t need to fumble for a song when every second counts.
To just a thought:shout out to my daughters teacher. Shes in 2nd grade and her teacher makes them write hatzalas number on every single spelling test every thursday
Gevaldig!
Just punkt, my wife started teaching my 3 year old daughter her cell number in a song. It’s crazy how well it works. She really remembers it.
When I was in 3rd grade we got a plus 2 for every paper we handed in with Hatzalahs number written on the bottom. We loved it then but I it’s definitely the only way I remember it so well
How a married woman (or man) doesn’t have hatzolah’s number already saved in their phone is truly frightening!
From the comments here it sounds like she’s not the only one.
The least hishtadlus one can do is to save the number in their phone!
Do it NOW!!
Thanks! you just inspired me to put the number in my phone (I had Hatzalah from a different city)
I hope I never need it like I BH did not until now!
When my daughter was younger she was not able to remember our phone number, so we had a special song for it. She couldn’t remember to say it, but could sing just fine.
To this day, there are things I learned through song (Schoolhouses rock’s Preamble to the constitution) that I could not repeat if I had to say them.
There really is a lot of power to adding music to an advertisement.
