9 Fun Ways to Celebrate World Animal Day

9 Ideas for World Animal Day This Year

World Animal Day was started for the first time back in 1931. The main aim was to bring to light the plight that endangered animals around the world go through. With time, the meaning of the day has evolved, and now people have marked it to celebrate and honor all animals and show they all the love in the world. Just like National Pet Day, which is celebrated on April 11 every year in the US, World Animal Day is celebrated on October 4. In this article, let’s have a quick look at some fun activities that you can do with your pet on World Animal Day!

Fun Ways to Honor World Animal Day

There are plenty of ways in which you can get yourself involved and have fun with your furry friends on the day dedicated to them, here are some ideas to get you started –

  1. Educate People – The first thing that you can do is actually fulfill the purpose of World Animal Day and that is to spread awareness about the endangered species and the suffering that some animals have to go through because of the direct or indirect actions of human beings. You can talk about illegal wildlife trade, illegal dog-fighting, puppy mills, animal-testing labs, poorly managed zoos, and honestly, this list is endless.

  1. Create an Event – If you want to make a difference on this day, you can also create an event themed on something that is really important to animals. For example, you can do a puppy adoption camp in your neighborhood, for starters. Simply come up with some innovative ideas.

  1. Volunteer – If you are out of ideas, you can always volunteer at some event happening in your city or somewhere near you. The local animal welfare organizations always conduct some events on these special days, and all you have to do is find out about it and register.

  1. Donate – Choose a local animal shelter or charity shelter and donate something – whatever you can and whatever falls within your means. They are always in need of supplies, litter, and food, so they will be more than happy for your help. If you have a fellow canine at home, you can also think about blood donation if they are healthy enough for it. Several surgeries in this division could not be performed simply because there is a huge shortage of feline and canine blood donors. So, if you can do something to fill that gap, then why not!

  1. Offer Services – You can offer some discounted or even free services either at the hospital/clinic you work at or even set up a shop in your locality. You can offer low-cost neuter and spay services to whoever is interested. If you are an expert in this field, you can also offer them educational classes on pet obesity, heartworm preventative care, the importance of being aware of parasites, and CPR.

  1. Help a Stray – We have all come across strays in need, and may even sometimes have helped a few, sometimes we didn’t because of several reasons. So, on this World Animal Day, why not help a stray? You don’t necessarily have to bring it home, but you can offer it some food, maybe take it to the vet if it needs some medical attention, or you can then foster them temporarily.

  1. Plan a Charity Walk – This is another wonderful yet fun initiative that you can take on. Make sure that the charity walk is cat-friendly or dog-friendly so that people can bring their pets along. You can also start or end the walk at the vet clinic.

  1. Surprise Your Own Pet – You can also choose to do something special for your own pet at home. You can take some extra time out to play with them, take them out somewhere or maybe buy them some special treat.

  2. Make Your Home Animal-Friendly – If your family is not open to accepting pets at home, then on October 4, you can try and persuade them to change their mind. This can be a great way to honor these lovely creatures.

    Conclusion

The list of endangered animals around the world is ever-increasing, and it’s time that we humans do something about it with utmost seriousness. The first step towards it is spreading awareness.
