At last week’s Township meeting, issues relating to “quality of life” were discussed. Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein reported that a 4 way stop sign at the corner of Princeton and Squankum Avenues passed the approval of the engineer and police departments perceptively. In order to pass this ordinance, it will need the vote of approval from the township committee. The Township intends to install a flashing stop sign, once approved.
On this topic, Lichtenstein commented that he was notified that the flashing stop sign on Monmouth & 7th has been out for the past several weeks. It seems that people have been used to the flashing sign as a reminder to stop; without these lights, some motorists were inadvertently not stopping at a safe distance.
In other news relating to the quality of life; a discussion ensued about the possibility of getting a turning arrow for the Princeton & Kennedy intersection. The matter has been turned over to the County as those roads are in their jurisdiction.
Deputy Mayor, Menashe Miller asked that the area of Clifton Avenue and Route 88 be given attention as numerous potholes have appeared recently. Miller recounted that this road has a history of issues going back a few year when there was a water main break. Since that time, Miller reported, potholes tend to open up quickly and have posed a safety issue to drivers.

what about all the pot holes, not paved and bumpy roadways?? does the township plan on repaving these streets? we pay very high taxes and should have passable roadways!
soon they’ll be putting up 4 way stop signs on one way streets. how about plowing when there is an inch of snow so there isn’t sheets of ice all around town for no reason.
Why?? Who needs it?? I dont think the 4 way stop is necessary at all!!!!
I love this idea this will help smooth traffic better and I appreciated the mayor safety idea. Grade A we should make traffic smoother. We need efforcement on RT 9 where the sign said no left turn. We need more Police to help reduce accidents on the road. There are too many people aren’t pay attention.
On the issue of quality-of-life maybe someone can bring to the townships attention and the intersection from route 92 Kennedy Blvd. southbound if you want to make a left turn onto Kennedy Boulevard there is a turning signal and then it turns red maybe at night when there is no traffic they can take away that red light signal so if the light is green for the cars to go straight you should also be allowed to make a left turn onto Kennedy Boulevard and not have to wait five minutes till the light changes again it is annoying late at night when there is no cars and you have to sit there and wait for no reason
this 4 way stop sign will help just like it helped on Martin Luther and Pine!!!
Thery’re too cheap to install a proper traffic light and so they put down these 4 way stop signs all over the place which hardly anyone in this town knows how to use!!!
Yes- what about the pot holes!
I travel everyday from main steet to cedarbridge ave and turning onto cedarbridge there are several almost devastating pot holes.
Every so often you’ll see a repair truck repair the holes by filling them with asphalt. However once it rains the patches break away and we’re back to square one.
Why can’t this be repaired properly?? So much money is being spent – only to be washed away again.
I must have seen this repeat itself at least 4 times in the last year!
This is an indictment of rude and selfish driving. In the real world, a stop sign is a stop sign! Period!
But here, in Lakewood, we have to have a four way stop sign. Then we have to decorate them with flashing lights. Then we have to put up a warning stop sign a few feet up from the intersection telling us of the four way stop coming up within view.
And you know what? IT DOES NOT HELP. RUDE and speeding drivers still try to sneak in before their proper wait time, and then they drive away like like no one else is in the world but them.
This is just ONE symptom of why we as a people have issues even though we think we are perfect!
That corner is very dangerous. Especially for the children trying to cross the street.
A four-way stop sign may improve traffic on Princeton, but it will create a mess on Squankum. You will have the same situation that currently exists at the three-way stop sign on Pine and ML King. What a mess!
They have to stop this 4 way stop thing. It’s the dumbest thing in the world.
wow!
that should solve all of lakewoods traffic problems
I called the LKWD PD dept. of T&S about 8 years ago that a east west route be established on 7th st., he told me it was the smartest sugestion he heard the last 20 years in office!
Why do north – south ave’s have almost all full right of way?
Even 4th st. is terrible at clifton , esspecialy if one car wants to turn left – north it can back up traffic till madison ave – rt 9
The parking spots in front of bank of america are dangerous, they do have a lot, it should be shared with local stores to.
And of course look out of your window before opening your door, and remember if you have a baby in the back seat.
Four way stop signs require common sense and common courtesy toward your fellow drivers. Sadly, that is not so common in our town. Instead of first in first through, it’ll be the selfish and arrogant plowing through and the timid waiting and waiting. Put up a light.
This is a bad idea. The intersection is too large, you can’t see all the corners and the angle of the intersection does not allow for a safe stop. This should be a traffic light!
Now if they should insist tn installing the stop signs, then there should be a tow truck and police car parked on a corner to quickly remove the accidents when they occur to keep the intersection open.
The four way stop signs are the best thing that ever happened in this town. Go look at the statistics.PAINTIENCE IS THE KEY! RABOSAI your lives are in danger please please please slooooow down. MIDOS MIDOS AND AGAIN MIDOS ARE WHAT MAKES YOU A BEN TORAH AND THEN THE BLATT GEMARA
