The Lakewood Police Department added 10 new police officers.
Detective Lieutenant Greg Staffordsmith says the new officers are currently undergoing in-house training, and will soon hit the roads.
The new officers are:
Andrew Solomon
Michael Milano
Leomaxi Dilone
Caitlyn Kicki
Justin Burkhardt
Tyler Bennett
Zachary Hatt
Nicholas Cusanelli
Joseph Rusk III
Michael Conrad
Recruits Milano and Cusanelli were Class II Officers for Lakewood prior to being hired full-time, and Recruits Solomon, Kicki and Rusk were Class II Officers with Pt. Pleasant Beach and Seaside Heights.
Michael Conrad was an Officer with the NJ Department of Corrections.
The new hires bring the number of officers in Lakewood to approximately 135. Several officers are set to retire in the coming months.
Just curious how come there are no frum policemen?
Abe, All a Frum person has to do is apply.
The NYPD has many Frum officers.
Is this not a bit bloated? What is the police to citizen ratio in similar sized pretty safe towns in NJ?
Bh there’s no frum Officers.
The main issue for a frum person is that the police department works with seniority. All officers Work 40 hours a week 10 hour shifts per day and gets the rest of the week off. Rookies for a good couple years get the worst shift which is usually over the weekend and obviously we are not able to work over the weekend so it won’t really work out. Just as any officer they’ll tell you the same thing
Approximately 6 frum people applied and they were turned down… better this way
Bloated? Lakewood is now a city of 100,000 with 135 Officers for 3 shifts excluding those on vacation, working within the precinct,in court, processing arrests or out sick, before the retirements over the coming months.
I know of a frum NYPD officer. He asked a question and was told it is better to work in a non-Jewish area. There are too many potential issues that might come up when a frum police officer is dealing with frum people.
Around 20 years ago LPD also had around 130 officers. The department has barely grown while the town population is at least 25% more than it was then.
A town Lakewood’s size ought to have approximately 160 officers according to the data here: http://www.governing.com/gov-data/safety-justice/police-officers-per-capita-rates-employment-for-city-departments.html
Let’s not look at population for a second. I’m curious to know the ration of the number of officers as it relates to the amount of crime. I’m willing to bet if you look at it that way, the officer ration is quite high!
Depends if you call traffic violations crime…
looks like there is too much money hanging around there…
Do we really need to sponsor so many brand new suv’s? & salaries that are double the average Lakewood resident’s? I’m paying 1/3 of my income to property taxes. This is not what I’m looking to pay for.
Just to add – the scary perp is still on the loose!
