Man Locates Long-Lost Yarmulka at the Botton of a Keilim Mikva
A Lakewood man who lost a yarmulkah over 15 years ago was reunited with the item after a local resident noticed the black head-covering resting at the bottom of a keilim mikvah.
“I saw this round object staring at me from the bottom of the mikvah,” said Aryeh Metziah, who happened to be toiveling several new keilim Thursday when he encountered what he thought was a strange extraterrestrial object that had landed inside the mikvah. “I was absolutely terrified that I had encountered a miniature UFO, and that small alien creatures would soon emerge from the tiny, round disk, abduct me and take me to a strange planet. But then I realized, much to my relief, that the round object was merely a yarmulkah that had fallen into the mikvah.”
“I was able to reunite the long-lost yarmulkah with its owner via a local Lost & Found organization,” Mr. Meziah said, “which really made my day!”
The owner of the yarmulkah, Zev Vasserstein, told reporters on Thursday that he had been searching high and low for the lost yarmulkah, and that he never gave up hope that he would one day be reunited with it.
“I had worn that yarmulkah for 13 consecutive years, 24/7 prior to that fateful day 15 years ago when the cherished item suddenly disappeared from my head,” Mr. Vasserstein said. “Now that I think about it, I remember toiveling some keilim around that same time period when I suddenly felt a light breeze on the top of my head, but I had no idea that my yarmulkah had taken a dive into the keilim mikvah.”
“I’m just happy to be reunited with my yarmulkah,” he said, “I’m gonna take it to the dry cleaners today, and wear it on Rosh Hashana because, frankly, that’s the least I can do for a beloved yarmulkah that never left my side – or my head for that matter – for over 13 years.”
