PHOTO: An “Ask The Mayor” suggestion, and immediate implementation

Just a couple days ago, a resident suggested to the Mayor through our Ask The Mayor column that a simple sign be added to the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Brook Road to help reduce accident at the corner.

According to multiple surveillance videos, it appeared many drivers were unaware the cross traffic did not stop.

Immediately upon receiving the suggestion, the Mayor reached out to the Lakewood Police Department’s Traffic Safety division and DPW, and the sign was made. It was installed this morning.

  1. Great idea! Thanks to whoever’s idea this was and thank you Mr Mayor and PD for putting up the sign so quickly!
Now it’s up to us as drivers to pay attention to this sign and the rest of the signs around town.

  2. It’s hard to see the stop sign until after the bend so a driver that is not so familiar with that road or is not paying attention might miss it because you only see it when you get there.

  3. problem is speed from ridge/East 7th and very hard for cars turning or crossing from Brook/Ridge to assess the cars coming down from East 7th/Ridge The speed is fast from one side as its over 45 from the ridge side and much less coming from East 7th on the high school side which is about 20-25miles per hour. I believe this confuses people. And the fact its a narrow but well traveled road. A Stop Sign is greatly needed to slow the speed into town and to allow cars to cross or turn into intersection.

  4. I would love to see the reflecive word “FULL” put on top of the “STOP” on every STOP sign.

Still cheaper than property damages or God forbid, injury to or loss of loved ones. Unfortunately necessary.

  5. I think this sign is needed on very corner in town. When i drive down Forest or Clifton Avenues and legally have the right of way, it is very common that cars who are at Stop signs at any street corner will pull out to dangerously cross over right in front of car who has the right of way. In excusable, but it seems that the drivers are unaware of the driving laws. HELP.
