Thousands of Jews from around the world united last week in order to purchase a new refrigerated truck for ZAKA teams working in the South. Though ZAKA was happy to reach its original goal, representatives report that the war is “far from over.”
Over one month after the brutal Simchat Torah massacre, ZAKA volunteers are still working long and grueling days removing remains from the wreckage. Many bodies are spread out among bushes, or charred in ash. The work is time consuming and heavy on the heart. Their work is sacred: Men, women, children, babies, and the elderly are retrieved and laid to rest with dignity. This is a tremendous mitzvah, hard fought for.
ZAKA representatives stress that though the addition of another refrigerated truck to their fleet is a major win, there are more needed. Supplies are needed for both transportation, and for protecting volunteers from rockets and gunfire. Please consider donating to help ZAKA get the equipment they need.
