A Yungerman walking with his wife on Friday night in Lakewood was pepper sprayed in an attempted robbery, the victim tells TLS. The Yungerman says he was walking with his wife along Ridge Avenue around midnight when a black man jumped them from behind, demanding money while pointing pepper spray at them.
After telling his wife to quickly run home, the Yungerman kicked the suspect, fighting him off, but not before being pepper sprayed.
The victim, shaken, gathered his hat, Yarmukah and his wife’s shoes, and ran home – which was approximately five minutes away.
“When I got home, I felt my face tingling,” the victim told TLS. Luckily, the victim was apparently unable to aim the pepper spray properly due to being under the influence of a substance, the victim says.
“It seems he was high on something,” the victim said.
The incident is just down the block from where two other robberies occurred within the last two weeks.
On Somerset Avenue, a Chosson was severely beaten in a robbery attempt, and in Raintree, another resident was robbed that same night, though he wasn’t injured.
“We were completely traumatized, and my wife didn’t sleep all night,” the victim said.
The victim says he intends on reporting the incident to police this evening.

Why can’t you call on shabbos
Wait, she ran home without knowing what was happening to her husband AND DIDN’T CALL THE POLICE???
Seems like this neighborhood needs a little attention. Police , Lakewood civilian patrol or just a couple of guys with bats. But this has to stop.
Lot of drug dealing in Raintree and no patrols
A true ” new age” Lakewood guy. He calls the scoop before calling the police.
I am always saddened when I hear this happening to ANYONE!!! I don’t care where you live or who you are, this is a Crime and we need to stop Crime from happening!! I am so sorry to the Couple, I hope all involved are ok and prayers are being said.
Let’s just keep on raising the property taxes in this town and getting nothing in return. It seems to work well for some people. I’m glad the orthodox Jewish community has lately been being blamed for all of Lakewood’s problems on social and local media. They seem to turn a blind eye to all the violence that comes from the other part of Lakewood’s population.
ask you rabbi- but its your duty to call on shabbos as someone else can be in danger with a villain running around. they don’t give up. they go to the next opportunity – and it could be just the next person walking down the street or around the corner. the same is for someone trying to break into a home. They WILL go on to one of your neighbors. I believe Rabbi Rottberg posted in the name of R Shalom Zalman Aurbach Ztl that one should call the police.
Last Friday Shabbos night a person saw someone with a gun in his hand son East 5th between Manetta and Negba. He called the cops on Shabbos.
this Shabbos only a few blocks away this other yungerman is attacked while walking with his wife. It proves they are not scared to approach more than one person at a time. they are thugs. they will hurt someone else. Please double check NOW and ask you rav. Please call the police even on shabbos.
JoeMoe how about focusing on the solution. There is enough tension,
PS ; Have a baseball bat ?l
I’ve been jumped but got up and was ready to fight and the three ran off. I did not call the police. You cannot judge people for not calling the police when they stand and fight.
It would be nice if police actually did patrols in this town. I would be very curious is if questioned about patrols what the police cjeifs response would be.
What grids are sectioned off for patrols, how often is each street in the grid checked each day, how do they determice the frequency of the patrols for each grid?.
I am sure they would have no answer because there are no patrols at all.
