Your Questions To The BOE, Answered

boe meetingAs yesterday posted, a BOE offered to respond to any questions or concerns readers may have with the BOE budget, posted yesterday in the agenda. Below are some of the relevant questions submitted to the BOE member via email, as well as the responses. · N- Appraisal Services – why is there no “not to exceed” clause?

Good Point. It will be raised and we will try to have it inserted.

· T- Since busing is a significant percentage of the budget, can’t we get better pricing by consolidating companies? Can we consolidate routes and not have buses assigned to schools (except for very small children). Why can’t we have bus routes like city buses with separate pick up areas for boys and girls , and drop off areas that are close to the schools in that radius? I have to believe that having separate busing for each school at different times is a huge drain on the budget. Let all the Yeshivos plan their schedules accordingly and provide group busing. If they wish to have a different schedule they can pay for it themselves. Night schedules are the same. Why should tax dollars be used to provide busing for kids coming home after night seder? It is just not reasonable to have all these additional costs, parents can car pool their HS kids at night.

Excellent point! The Board has been advocating for this for a while. 2 years ago a proposal was put forth with this idea and the savings were tremendous. The problem is that the Mosdos refuse to allow their children go on a bus with children of another school. While they may live on the same block andplay with each other, they are not allowed to be bussed together. Unless we can either get the Mosdos to cooperate, or get the oilam to ignore them, we are stuck.

· X&Y- Why is there such disparity in the per diem costs for busing? $117, $108/hr, $87, $57 etc? If it can be done for $57 why d others charge $117?

This is usually because some runs are shorter and the company can do them quicker, thereby allowing them to do 2 or 3 runs in the time it takes to do just one of the longer ones.

  1. For people who care about information:
http://www.state.nj.us/education/finance/fp/ufb/salaries09.xls will tell you salaries from Lakewood District – do you see any other board who has a board attorney on salary?? Our superintendent is not overpaid but is on the higher end if you compare to other districts.
On this same website you can look up private school tuition rates and other pertinent info.
Btw who is this anonymous board member? Do we know that these questions and answers are legit?
