Your Neighborhood: Brookhill Neighborhood Launches Petition for Street Widening, Proper Lighting

The Brookhill neighborhood of Lakewood launched the following petition:

Dear Esteemed Mayor and Committee Members.

The Brookhill & surrounding Neighborhoods has had tremendous growth over the years. The Traffic alongside East Kennedy Blvd from Milano Dr thru Twin Oaks Drive is dangerous. The Buses and Cars have a very hard time driving down this street. Additionally, the streets are dark at night and drivers cannot see pedestrians walking or crossing. The pedestrians do not have a sidewalk to walk on. The way things are now there is a tragedy waiting to happen may god protect us.

We had a meeting with many home owners in the surrounding Brook hill and Twin Oaks neighborhoods, We Suggest the Township do the following:

1. Widen the current street to alleviate the congestion and traffic and allow for parking on both sides of the street. If we Widen the road by 10 feet (allows parallel parking) vs. 20 feet (allows head-in parking) head-in parking should be considered as that would create more needed parking spots, particularly in the area of Milano-Somerset.

2. Provide adequate lighting for the entire East Kennedy corridor

3. Provide A proper, wide sidewalk should be installed on the north side of Kennedy running from Twin Oaks Dr, thru the existing path and ideally until Brook Rd. If not that far, at least until Lucerne. This sidewalk need not interfere with any existing conditions on the ground.

These proposed additions will provide a safe and much needed solution to the neighborhood’s growth.

We thank you in advance for looking in to this and look forward to keeping Brookhill a safe and secure environment for us and our kids.

Thank you,

The Brookhill & Twin Oaks Neighborhood

  1. And who will pay for the whole town?

A builder comes to the township to make a development and tells the township it will be x amout of people living here and sells the the house for $xx based on the amount of infrastructure he had to put in, and then when the population is actually ( because of basements etc ) double the rest of the town has to pay for it? How about at the next meeting raising some funds for us? (The township actually gets their money from the people living in the whole town=us)
I believe at that point everyone would support it

  2. This petition left out Twin Oaks Dr from E County line Rd to E Kennedy Blvd passing Kosher Village. Cars speed along that stretch. Every street light along that road has been taken out over the years by irresponsible drivers. One has to practically risk his life to cross that street. I see kids “running” across, because they are scared they will get hit. In addition cars come flying out of the Villas as there is unbelievably no stop sign at that corner and people cross there thinking it’s a safe place to cross.. That’s a disaster waiting to happen. It’s especially dangerous in the afternoon when the school buses are letting off children in that area.

  3. I think the Township and the Planing Board should go back to the Builder and his traffic experts and make them pay for any and ALL changes that are being requested.
Then the Planning Board should never allow this builder and his traffic experts apply for any new projects.

  4. Get your builder to widen your streets. You saw the plan and you decided to live there.
This place is a joke. The whole town is a Joke. Bh.

  5. Along with widening the street, you can add to the petition that the city can extend East Kennedy Blvd. from where it currently ends bending around the WaWa, so that East Kennedy can continue parallel to County Line, instead of all traffic needing to merge onto County Line at Squankum Ave. That “street” is on the books, but has been prevented from coming into being by the Brookhill and Twin Oaks neighborhood.
Oh, you don’t want that street? You prefer your “privacy”? Then perhaps your current streets fit with that “private” motif.

  6. While members of the Committee ‘s who allowed this building can not be held liable, due to qualified immunity. The so-called experts, who testified repeatedly in front of these boards, that these developments would have no negative impact on traffic, absolutely can be held liable in civil court for the damage caused by their “testimony”.

I think they and their liability insurance would be an excellent resource to repair the havoc they have caused to the infrastructure of this town
