Why is the Tomeich campaign such a big deal?
RAW: Saving lives is a big deal. In an emergency, our kehillah relies on Hatzolah and Hatzolah is always there. But, we cannot do this work without the support of every member of the kehillah. But, Hatzolah is much more than responding in an emergency, just knowing that Hatzolah is a mere phone call away gives a sense of calm and security to all of us 24/7/365.
This is the campaign that makes it happen. This campaign is the bread and butter of Hatzolah’s funding for the entire year. Every vehicle needs maintenance, gas, we need to buy equipment and lifesaving tools. There is nothing more important than life itself and that’s what being a Tomeich Hatzolah is all about.
Why is the Tomeich Campaign at this time of year when people are so busy?
When the sifrei chaim v’sifrei meisim are pesuchin lefanav what better way to merit chaim than by demonstrating that there is nothing more valuable than a life? Last summer we had the zechus of visiting the gedolei haposkim in Eretz Yisrael. We asked Hagaon HaRav Moshe Shternbuch Shlit”a and others what we should tell people regarding donating to Hatzloah over other tzedakos and he responded very strongly that nothing comes before supporting Hatolah to save lives.
It’s so important for us to give you the opportunity to have this zechus at this awesome time of year. Imagine that during neilah when our gzar din for the entire year is being sealed, you hear an ambulance passing by, or a member from your shul running out to respond to a call – you’re a partner in the mitzvah of Hatzalas nefashos. A whole year, you’ll be a partner in all 9000+ calls. What better way to enter the Yomim Noraim?
What is the money raised used for?
The money from Tomeich is used for the day to day operating expenses. Gauze pads and bandages, epi pens, blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, gas, Shabbos drivers, insurance, radios, and the list goes on and on. We need $2,000,000 a year to save lives. The Rosh HaYeshiva Rav Shneur Zt”l felt that this is a chiyuv on each and every individual in the community to take part in. This is not your average fundraiser, this is one of the most critical needs our community has.
Why are you asking for $1 a day?
You don’t want us the compromise on anything the community needs. When it comes to the safety and well-being of our families we won’t accept anything less than what hatzolah provides. Can we allow the response time to go up? Can we allow members to be ill equipped? Can we neglect maintaining the ambulances? Of course not!
People come to me all the time after they needed Hatzolah and regretted not doing more beforehand. They tell me they didn’t realize what Hatzolah does until they experienced it first hand. Please, let’s not wait for that to happen, let’s become a Tomeich Hatzolah now, and in that zechus, may we all have a gut gebenched yuhr and never need the services of Hatzolah again.
