You May Have To Say Goodbye To Free Internet Access At Libraries

library internetNew Jersey librarians say Gov. Chris Christie’s proposed state budget cuts would gut many library services at a time when state residents are using libraries more than ever. The administration is proposing $3.6 million in state aid for statewide library services for fiscal year 2011, a funding number significantly less than the almost $14 million appropriated in the current fiscal year, according to figures provided by the New Jersey State Library. That funding loss includes a 50 percent cut in state aid to county and municipal libraries. That means libraries in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Ocean counties would lose more than $351,000 – money that can’t be found in already tight county and local budgets.

Library officials said the cuts means customers would lose services both big and small. Read full report in pressofatlanticcity.

  1. they have the computers already. All they need to pay is for the internet connection which isn`t so expensive at all. let them stop buying books!

  2. HELLO WAKE UP THE STUFF THAT IS LET THROUGH THE FILTER CAN DISTROY YOUR KIDS WITH ONE GLACE HEAVEN FORBID HORRIBALE PRITZUS THAT WILL DESTROY YOUR CHILDS MIND IN ONE MINUTE HASHEM YERACHEM …

  3. This is a way of strong arming the Governor threaten to take away a cheap but popular service that the public uses (people use it for job searching, health info, etc.). While that money could be made up easily by curtailing a couple of employee perks for this year, maybe delay a hiring or two for a retiring employee.

Remember this is $351,000 across all the branches in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Ocean counties. Ocean county itself has 21 branches (as per their website). You tell me they can’t find that money to save anywhere except for the internet access fees for the public (not their own for their private surfing)

Can’t everyone see how this is blackmail. They all do the same thing the teachers union, now the library.

  4. I use the Lakewood Public Library not to have to bring internet into my house (I’m posting elsewhere now as the library is closed) Having free internet there is a wonderful service for all who need internet but don’t want it in their house.

  5. On a personal note, it pains me to even have to mention here, how many yiddisheh neshamos are wandering due to the effects of what is allowed in the public libraries.

May the Aibeshter help that this should only be taken a lot vaiter!

THERE IS NO HETER TO ENTER!
Someone once asked Harav Avigdor Miller zt”l:
“Is it mutar for my child to take out BOOKS from the public library?
His response was “The question is, ‘Is it mutar for YOU?'”
