You May Be Eligible For A Tax Rebate In Revised Budget

New Jersey lawmakers are poised to approve a state budget that restores property tax rebates to lower-income homeowners. A reworked budget would provide rebate checks averaging $890 to homeowners who earn less than $75,000. Those earning $50,000 to $75,000 would get checks averaging $670 in the fiscal year that starts July 1. Gov. Jon S. Corzine had proposed suspending rebates to all but seniors and the disabled. But Corzine says a wildly successful tax amnesty program allowed officials to revise the budget, now scheduled for a Thursday vote. The Senate Budget Committee approved the $29 billion budget Monday. The Assembly budget panel also was scheduled to consider the proposal. AP.
