Yoni Silver, Board Of Ed Member, On Elections

Yoni Silver_wmTLS EXCLUSIVE: I have worked very closely with the LAC members over the last year, and I have an extremely favorable opinion of them. Those who knock them on the blogs should really know that what LAC are doing is truly 100 % Leshmo and have nothing to gain from what they are doing . They have no vested interest in this town. They don’t own real estate not on 2nd st or 1st or Monmouth or Clifton Avenues. They don’t even own any businesses in this town; they truly are working to get our taxes lowered, although this will take some time.
Having said that, I would like to remind the oilom  of John Corzines “ACCOMPLISHMENTS”over the last 4 years as well as his future intentions. The reason for this statement is so that people should be fully aware of the issues we are facing this year so they can cast a well informed vote!
First and foremost, the few gubernatorial races that are taking place in this off election year are considered by many to be a referendum on our president’s socialist agenda! Over the last 4 years Gov.Corzine has raised tolls 3 times, abolished property tax rebates, removed tax deduction for property taxes from state tax return, raised state income taxes, raised taxes on just about all goods and services including cigarettes liquor etc…,couldn’t balance a budget and withheld state school funding forcing districts to apply for state backed loans which most districts couldn’t get. Perhaps the most significant of all is the fact that he tried to levy a penalty on all KWH usage in the summer months in the name of “protecting the environment and saving electricity” The ensuing backlash in an election year was the only thing that stopped him from allowing the legislature to vote this into law. If this would have gone into effect, and it will next year if he gets elected it will cost the average resident of Lakewood at least 20% more on your electric bill.
The future…….
If Corzine gets elected you will see all forms of taxes and tolls continue to rise exponentially, your electric bills will skyrocket, and he will have his liberally appointed judges allow all sorts of “right to choose” and any type of To’aiva imaginable. There are of course some Hakoras Hatoiv issues as well as the promise to widen route 9 which should be considered. I am not endorsing any candidate just giving you all information you may want to take with you if you want to ask a true rav his opinion who you should vote for.

  1. Yoni Silver: How do you tell between ‘true’ Ravs and the fake ones?

Also, you forgot to tell us what should we expect under Christie? Are we perhaps will see the reduction in the programs?

  2. I just asked my Rov who to vote for, and he turned out to be a ‘fake’ one….Yoni, what should I do? Should I look for another Rov? I really respect him… My Rov is not only very learned in kodesh un chol but also is a major Baal Chesed. Days and nights he is busy raising money for food, shelter, and medical expences for the people who need it.

  3. Yungerman for Corzine: It is fine that you obvoius came form nowhere and are just hanging out here. At least you are showing your true colors. Based on the boards here no one is for Corzine!

Yoni thank you for putting your neck on the line. Yungerman for Corzine is trying to knock you fro some non-issue that you said “True rav” I think that is a reflection on Y-for Corzines inteligence.
Yoni keep up the good work and thanks for the informative article.

  4. RE: Lakewood voters;
There was a RAINBOW Shabbos morning in lakewood.
It’s אסור to vote this year in Lakewood for local or state candidates.
Anyone concerned about the ציבור or their high taxes in Lakewood should stay away from the voting booth and DON”T VOTE.
    Besides the tremendous ביטול תורה

  5. Rabbi silver.
I was very confused with your post.
I do not understand what owning a business or real estate has anything to do with anyones good intentions.
You were obviously insinuating something. I couldn’t figure out who is promoting any political agenda ,that is a property owner of downtown real estate.
Can you clarify what you meant?

  6. The point is, there are Rabonim who specifically said NOT to vote for Corzine. So don’t feel obligated to vote for him because the va’ad said you should, but you use your own judgement, or ask your local Rav

  7. Rabbi Cohen said many times you are not allowed to vote for Corzine based on his push for to’iava marriages and his other hashkofos

  8. Y for Yashrus: My ‘true rav’ point is that the people should not all of a sudden ignore the advice of the Rabbonim whose judgment they normally trust and respect because they don’t like it. I am sure the Roshei Ha’Yeshiva too are troubled by the Corzine’s moral stances, and probably not less than Avi Solomon and Yoni Silver. But they have still decided after discussing it with the Vaad that Corzine would make the better Governor than Christie.

  9. Yudel: I got it figured out. This year you are saying do not vote..Hmmm. Got me thinking. Can it be because Twp comittee vote is going to be close and you are hoping some of us will stay home so Cunliffe can win? Let us knwo because this Do not vote thing from you is a surprising new one from you.

  10. Yashrus: It’s so Krum of you to ascribe negative motives to Yudel and me just because you disagree with us. I happen to know Yudel from Weinstein’s, and I know he means every word he says(of course it doesn’t mean he is always right).

  11. As far as I knew. Yoni was/is a member of tha LAC. Why the break-off? Could it be that some members of LAC decided to back Corzine without consulting other members. Mr. Schmuckler, what’s your agenda? I know that AK needs to groom some “young blood” for future office. WILL YOU BE THE ONE???

  12. peolpe with no vested interest in our town are the ones raising taxes and supporting nevala

u claim LAC has no vested interest here. that’s the reason to ignore them…

  13. Rabbi Cohen has a mesorah from hatzadik Rav Avigdor Miller Zatzal and I respect that. If our mesorah from Rav Moshe, Rav Shneur, and other gedolim from previous generations, and YBCLC”H our Roshei Yeshiva is different, than that is whom I will follow. I seek their advice in other areas of hashkafa, and this area should be no different.

  14. I am curious if the oilam in NYC is voting for Bloomberg who has similar social positions to those of corzine, yet is very good to many frum mosdos, or if they are voting for his opponent.

  15. As far as I know there is no break off! He just wanted to fill people in on some Corzine facts. He didnt tell any one who to vote for and either did the LAC

  16. There was no such thing as to’iava marriages in these rosh hayeshiva’s times. They would would probably turn over in their bais oilam if they knew who people are telling others to vote for in their name! They never would have allowed such a thing to be excepted.Harav Avigdor Miller said very scary things if a majority of states would pass such a law!!!!!!!And Cozine promised to pass this publicly

  17. Dear LAC Supporter: You have got to be kidding if you think that Yoni didn’t say to vote for Christie. Please reread Yoni’s post with his ‘facts’ and if you think that any person in his or her own sane mind will vote for Corzine, I wish you a lots of luck…you really need it.
It looks to me that LAC wants to dance at tsvei chassunos.

  18. It is time for clarity from the Lakewood Rosh Hayeshiva’s and Mashgiach. The Vaad’s letter says one way and arguably provides cohesive arguments for supporting Corzine but MANY MANY CHASUVE Lakewood rabbonim are directing otherwise because of Corzine’s moral stands. The Vaad letter’s short disclaimer at the end, was not sufficient. The Rosh Yeshiva’s letter of approval is the regular “copy and paste” and did not address the issue.
Either the Rosh Hayeshiva’s unequivocally stand up and clearly “brochel bitcho haketana” explain why it is acceptable to vote Corzine despite the moral stands we are indirectly supporting by following the Vaad’s directives or Lakewood’s vote will be divided (possibly forever.)

  19. Cunliffe can’t make it regardless, Havens or Medina Maybe?
Yudel says the way it is. We find that he happens to be right even when many others disagree with him-Time has always proved him right in the long run. His perception is on target.
You can love him or hate him, but right he is.

  20. Just look at todays headlines “Obama says NJ governor key to my agenda” This was said today on the 8 th campaign trip by Obama.Quote from Optimum and AOL headlines.Does mor need to be said???Stop picking on each other just wake up and see whats going on

  21. Y for Corzine.
I never said anything negative motivation for you or Yudel. Just musing some obvious conclusions. You are really doing your thing leshmo I can tell your leshmo for Corzine. you keep on going at it while not ONE person on all the boards is for him. Keep it going Obama..Corzine and Yungerman for Corzine. you should get in on those ads.

  22. Why dont you ask the Yeshivah Rabonim and Poskim ? . You might be surprised at what some of them pasken as to the heter or issur of voting for somebody who will pass pro toieva laws . Hint : it miight not shtim with the VAAD

  23. Guys,

Let’s have a little sanity here…. It goes without saying that we live morally speaking in terrible times. But the truth be told, our vote for Corzine will not make much of a difference in this respect. As you all know, NJ already recognizes civil unions for ss couples, the status differing from marriage in name only….From the Halachik point of view there is no difference whatsoever between the two, as we do already have(nebach) ksubas zchorim.
This election is not about ss marriage, but about which candidate is better suited to tackle NJ’s financial woes. The Lakewood’s vote for Corzine will not tell the world at large that the Torah community suports ss agenda. All that it would say is that Lakewood had voted for Corzine because it thought he was more competent then Christie to fix the ecnomy.

Contary to some views found here, Corzine did a good job since he assumed the office. When he came in, the state used to spend $31 billion a year, currently it’s $29 billion. The reason for his unpopularity that to balance the budget he had to raise taxes. And nobody likes to be taxed… And yes he will raise them even more. But he has no choice….

I am sorry to say, but reading some of the comments I am reminded of the beryonim/kanoim who caused the Beth Ha’Mikdash to be destroyed. It’s easy to engage in grandstanding, but in the real world we are almost always faced by the choosing between two evils and not by good and bad choice as some suggest here. Please accept it…

In my years in Lakewood, I never saw Avi Solomon or Yoni Silver writing a check to a youngerman to pay his rent, but I did see Reb Yeruchem doing it. If Christie is to get elected, and the programs will get reduced who will take responsibility…

    LM

  24. foodstamps, hud, family care, wic are all federal funded stop with your scare tacticts the only programs that the state spends on is liberal arts which the frum world doesn’t see a penny and by the way i spoke with someone who spoke directly with r yerucham and he said its OSSUR TOVOTE FOR CORZINE

  25. Y for Corzine -I gotta hand itr to you that you really know how to spin things. I’ll just try ro keep you yashrus. That is what H’ wants from us. not to give in for a few bucks!

  26. The Roshei Yeshiva do not and should not explain “b’rochel bitcha haketana” on what they are basing their decision. They are stating their decision. You can ask them to explain to you the various considerations involved, but don’t expect them to have to present all their deliberations to you for you to pass judhement.

Tax Burden: In FY2010, Governor Corzineʼs budget will make the tax burden even heavier by making the taxpayers
pay these new taxes and fines:
    1. $970 million for the elimination of property tax rebates
    2. $903 million for income tax rate increases
    3. $400 million for tax increase on employers for unemployment
    program
    4. $270 million for corporate business tax increase
    5. $100 million for the elimination of property tax deduction
    6. $37 million for health insurance tax increases

THE NUMBERS DONʼT LIE: JON CORZINEʼS NEW JERSEY RANKS AT THE BOTTOM OF
    NEARLY EVERY ECONOMIC INDICATOR

  28. First of all before you disclose how much tzadakah your chaveirim give you should varify the facts, ypu might be surprised.2nd of all Hardly any one says to vote for Corzine because he is best at fixing our economy, that in itself is laughable. He has raised every single fee, tax and toll possible,he is interested only in people needing his hand outs, NOT THE ECONOMY!Just like his chaver Obama! So if this vote is based on monetary issues you got to be kidding if you think Corzine is better.Any hard working bread winner and head of household knows this to be true, unfortunately there are those that need to come on to his money that he takes from everybody, but that is not a reason that we all should vote for this socialist and promote Obama with it

  29. From all those psts above I can summarize that there are 3 possibilities to explain the Roshei Yeshiva agreeing with the vaad that the oilam should vote for corzine. 1) The vaad is lying and the Roshei Yeshiva won’t put a stop to this sheker- Not very believable. 2) That the Roshei Yeshiva don’t care about the yechidim and are saying to vote for corzine because of ulterior motives even if the tzibbur at large suffers- completely rediculous. 3) that after going over all the angles and possibilities the Roshei Yeshiva reached the conclusion that corzine is the proper choice despite the drawbacks. If you believe 1 or 2 you just may want to find a different mokom to learn, in my opinion.

  30. You forgot about the gasoline tax and the electric kwh usage tax!! Sounds like this writer knows what he’s talking about

  31. Yashrus dear,

Please don’t confuse the yoilom. You are correct that the taxes did and will go up. But this is not the point here. Don’t confuse the fact that the taxes did go up which is not good with the the fact that Corzine is to blame for it.

As I had mentioned, Corzine reduced the state budget since he came to office from $31 to $29 billion. Compare it with NYC’s budget under fiscal conservatie Bloomberg which grew from $52 to $60 over the last eight years. It schould tell you that he is not looking to spend your hard earned money on some frivoluos projects. The state has a huge debt(mostly Whitman’s fault) that must be repaid. Just look at the California which is in the similar mess and which by the way is run by the Republicans….All the taxes imposed by Corzine had gone toward paying for the debt. He is not looking to tax you blind to fund some liberal projects. All he is trying to do is to find the way from this ordeal, unless you of course want the Washington to run NJ… Please understand it…

Corzine is one of the most competent managers in the nation. Prior to the public office, he was a co-chairman of Goldman Sachs, the most prestigious investment bank in the world. The bank had paid him millions for his managerial acumen and that bank doesn’t pay all that money for nothing.

Because Corzine funds his own camapign, he doesn’t owe to the many interests that usually pay for campaigns and he is more or less free to do what is right. Despite the tremendous pressure not to raise taxes in the last four years and to reduce spending on the programs that many poor depend on(including many Lakewooders), he stood strong. If you compare Corzine’s experience to Christie’s, a former law and order prosecutor whose main claim is the infamous raid allegedly solving NJ corruption problem, Christie’s experience comes a bit short…

  32. I would hardly call Bloomberg and Schwartzeneger fiscal republicans and you know it!There is too much at stake here for you to skew the issues the way you do best.California is in the matziv that they are in precisely because they pursued the environmental path the way Corzine and Obama want to do.What do you say about cap and trade bill Which Corzine and Obama are for?Corzine is a great manager there is no question about it as we saw by Goldman Sachs, except there he wanted to steer the ship in the right direction so he and his company can make money. Now as state Governer he wants to make as many oeople as possible dependent on good ol Robin HOOD!!!!Thats what liberal socialists like Corzine are intent on doing. Are you willing to take responsibility for your words when this state and country becomes a banana republic?By the way the state debt is from Mcgreevey and Corzine

  33. Yungerman4corzine what’s yor agenda?? Seems you’ve been around these blogs the last few days pumping corzine?
Your steadfastness is starting to worry me. Who are you and what’s your affiliation?

  34. I was just in Yeshiva and There is a clear sign signed by the 4 Roshei Yeshiva against voting for anyone who supports SS mariage

  35. The Rosh Hayeshiva’s need not explain anything they do – they can advise us of their decision and we should ordinarily follow. But when there are many CHASHUVEI rabbonei IHR who disagree, by not clearly explaining their decision they risk losing the achdus of the Lakewood vote.

  36. It seems from some of the comments here that you an LAC member.. If so can u pls explain why did LAC who supposedly are out to lower our taxes say to vote for corzine who says he’s going to completely abolish property rebates – isn’t that a contradiction to the LAC mission? Thanks
Btw: thanks for standing up for us taxpayers as a boe member a job that pays zero, takes up hours of your time, no kavod, just bizyonos!
Kol mei sheoyskim betuchei tzibur BEMUNA, Hakodosh B”H yeshalam securom!!
