Woman Injured, Dog Killed After Being Struck By Vehicle

An elderly woman was injured and her dog was killed after being struck by a vehicle, officials tell TLS. The woman was walking her dog on Dorchester Drive in Leisure Village shortly after noon when she was struck by a vehicle.

The woman suffered non life-threatening injuries and was transported by Lakewood EMS to Ocean Medical Center in Brick. The dog was pronounced dead at the scene.

There should be mandatory retesting to renew your drivers license after a certain age. Its statistically proven that as you age, your senses and coordination start to deteriorate. But no, let’s enact a law that allows you to just mail in your renewal..

It’s time to ban all cars. Cars cause car accidents, just like guns cause shootings. Where are the Dems when we need them.

so sad to hear this, I hope she has a speedy recovery and that her dog gave her the best years of his/her life, the heart break of losing an animal can be very painful, they are just like a family member, because they are.

So sad. May she fully recover from her injuries. There is no mention of the age of the driver. They should re-test everyone who is in a major accident or receives a summons for a major moving violation. Age is not the only factor in poor driving.

May she have a speedy recovery. Glad the dog took the hit. . .

There is nothing in this article that indicates the woman was truck by an elderly person. Now, I don’t blame you for assuming it but maybe it was a younger person.

(moderated)

honestly.....

just throwing my 2 cents in, since this poor woman and dog was hit in Leisure Village, common sense should tell you that another elder person hit her, so yes there should be mandatory re-testing for people over a certain age as their reflexes aren’t what they once were, hope for a speedy recovery.

I’ve seen cases where a police officer who investigates an accident can effectively file a report/request that FORCES a retest of the driving ability of an involved driver. We don’t know whether it was done in this case.

I’ve kept an eye on traffic incidents in Leisure Village over the past several years, and you might be surprised that the most serious accidents have not been caused by the senior resident drivers. The only death I know of that occurred in a vehicle incident was caused by someone in their 40s. The most spectacular incident in the last few years, where a vehicle crashed through a home and put the person quietly sleeping in her own bedroom into the hospital, was caused by someone in their 20’s. The last crash into a lamp-post was caused by an out-of-state visitor in her 30’s.

What is mind-blowing about the incident reported here in TLS is that it happened around noon, on a day with great general visibility, and we have 25 MPH speed limits throughout the entire village. Dorchester Drive, in particular, is a main road with exceptionally good visibility. We have had great difficulty enforcing our speed limits. If they were obeyed, it would be almost impossible to have an accident of this nature.

Poor doggy, so sad. Glad that the woman had non life threatening injuries but it will take a long time for her heart to heal from the loss of her dog. Many prayers and thoughts to her and her family.

NO SENSE

The speed limit in leisure village is 25 mph. This makes no sense if the person was driving at the limit they wouldve been able to stop for a pedestrian.

My uncle was walking in Leisure Village on the sidewalk and a lady hit him. Luckily, he just got bumps and bruises.

Great reporting…a woman was hit…I assume she had a name and who hit her? What ever happened to the obvious questions being answered?
