A Jackson Township man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old woman at the Paragon Apartment Complex on Saturday morning.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that Shaquille Green, 29, of Jackson, was taken into custody and charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon following the death of Toraya Reid, 28, also of Jackson.
At approximately 11:00 a.m. on September 6, officers from the Jackson Township Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired and an unresponsive woman in the roadway at the Larsen Road complex. Responding officers discovered Reid lying near the exit with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Additional responding officers spotted a man running along North New Prospect Road. He was identified as Green and taken into custody without incident before being transported to Jackson Township Police Headquarters.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that Green — who had been in a dating relationship with Reid — was responsible for her death. He is currently lodged at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
