A woman and her child were hospitalized after traces of Carbon Monoxide were found in her home, TLS has learned. The Lakewood Fire Department responded to the home shortly after 1 PM, after the Carbon Monoxide alarm in the home sounded, and determined the levels of Carbon Monoxide to be at higher than usual levels.
Hatzolah was called, and transported the mother and child to KMC for observation, officials confirmed.
Carbon Monoxide, also commonly referred to as the ‘silent killer’, is a potentially deadly gas which is colorless, odorless and tasteless. Thousands die from Carbon Monoxide each year.

Thankfully they were warned by the alarm, so important to keep them operating!
the problem is that they make the detectors so sensitive. i just cant have every shabbos the alarm go off from the candles so unfortunately it just stays unploged
Change the clock, change the battery. When you hear it chirping change the battery right away, don’t push it off. Stay safe.
Spelling:Colorless and odorless
If its going off from candles your detector is defective. They need to be replaced every five to seven years.
#2 i highly doubt the carbon monoxide alarm goes off from shabbos candles!
Hey anonymous, it will be unfortunate when you and your family end up dead because of your stupidity of unplugging the alarm
#2, you are so STUPID for leaving the detector unplugged: you will be the next victim and will be not notified. Also, you need to return to school for spelling…
to #2, if you have more problems then you think if candles are setting off a CO alarm. Maybe your smoke alarm? They are two different things, two different alarms. If you are using candles, you really should leave the batteries in the smoke alarm because if they tip over or some combustible near it ignites, you will have a waring to get out and call the fire department. Either move the candles or move the detector. TLS, what are “usual” levels of CO?
#2, mine doesn’t go off every shabbos. Maybe there is something else you are doing different on shabbos than the rest of the week that is causing the detector to go off. It is really dangerous to leave it unplugged. Are you willing to take acharayus if something c”v were to happen? Are you willing to risk your entire family and any guests you may have?
number 2 is it the candles or the stove , oven and other things left on over shabbos
They do make co and smoke detectors in one. An alarm going off once a week is better than what could g-d forbid happen if left unplugged. Stay safe.
Move the alarm away from your candles and stay safe.
I’m glad to see the vast majority of comments support the importance of alarms. My sister and brother-in-law would be dead if not for a new Carbon Monoxide Alarm waring them of the deadly gas. As soon as they connected it, it went off. They thought it was defective but called the Fire Dept to be safe. They both ended up in the hospital due to poisoning. Alarms are a small investment for your family’s safety.
As a Hatzalah member I can tell you that I have been to many calls of people not feeling well, and were able to quickly determine the cause to be carbon monoxide. Only a week ago I heard of a grandmother and a few of her grandchildren who died from overnight carbon monoxide poisoning a few blocks from my in-laws. Oh, they had a detector but didn’t replace the batteries.
To all who are to relaxed about not having a CO detector. If you have alot of nuisance trips of your detectors. Please dont just unplug it look into changing the type of detector. This may save your family
I have a CO alarm which went off one Friday night. The Fire Department said it was the blech which was causing the problem and not the first time they had seen it. We started using a hot plate instead of the blech.
