The lack of white stuff has saved taxpayers lots of green stuff so far this Winter. By this point in the season last year, the Department of Public Works had already spent about $233,000 on snow cleanup, after the monster snow-storm buried Lakewood in several feet of snow.
By February 1st, Lakewood had spent about $240,000 on snow cleanup.
Jackson Township, which outsources their snow removal, paid close to $800,000 by that time, and Neptune paid about $600,000, according to DPW officials.
Jackson Township, a DPW official tells TLS, pays about $250 an hour for snow removal, while it cost Lakewood’s DPW about $40 an hour to operate a truck and driver, both which are in-house.
There is still no snow in the immediate forecast, and temperatures next week are expected to hit about 53 degrees. TLS-MK.

Don’t worry the winter is long, there’s is plenty of time to make up for it.
So where will I see my savings?

You should all be receiving a tax refund check in the mail.
$250,000 divided by 10,000 tax payers is $25 a family.
HH for mayor
Thats a lot of unemployment money
We should get our taxes back!
I remember a year we had snow on Shvi’i shel Pesach and we had a power failure from evening thru midday the next day. We stored our pots wrapped in bags in the snow on the deck. If it hasn’t snowed, please pretend you have not noticed the fact and don’t talk too soon.
I want a refund on my taxes or at least a cut.
I want lots of snow. Bring it on
When do I receive my check?
Tuitions are due!!!!!!
at 75k taxpayers in lakewood thats 3.33 a piece
Jackson pays $250 an hr for private contractors and Lakewood wants to pay $125 no wonder they were not able to find anyone.
I might pay for the clean up around Lakewood Township
I can’t believe how selfish you people (yes, YOU PEOPLE, if you know what I mean) are that you are happy for saving money for the township and MY FAMILY is not able to make all that extra money for overtime to clean the snow.
Stop being selfiish and think of the Dept of Public Works people for a change
I remember in the 50’s men digging their own streets out of a blizzard to help out the town workers. There’s enough men in this town complaining about their taxes, buy them all shovels and tell them they are responsible for their own streets. That’ll save on taxes!!
we need snow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! our kids need snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
