[COMMUNICATED] Lakewood is brimming with excitement. The beloved Bobover Rebbe, leader of thousands of devoted chassidim, is heading to Lakewood Ihr Hatorah. The purpose? To raise funds for the long-awaited Bais Hamedrash that his flourishing kehilla so desperately needs.
For many years, thousands of chasidim have squeezed into a rented space in the Bais Yakov ballroom on 45th St. and 15th Ave. in Boro Park every Shabbos and Yom Tov. “If there is room in the heart, there is room in the home” is an adage that describes the Bobover chasidim well. Though they davened in a space not their own, there was always space to fit in another Yid, make place for another guest, and accommodate many simchas over the years.
But nearly two decades after the Rebbe assumed the mantle of leadership, the time has come for the chasidus to create a space they can call their own. And flocks of Bobov-45 adherents and supporters have committed themselves to donating and raising money for this worthy project.
However, more funds are needed, so the Rebbe himself, placing the needs of his chasidim as top priority, has made it his calling to assist in this great undertaking. He will be visiting Lakewood for a few days to visit donors and appeal for the new Bobover shul.
This great edifice will be built on 14th Ave. and 49th St. and is estimated to cost around 60 million dollars, once completed. There will be thousands of seats to accommodate mispallelim from near and far, four mikvahs, many side rooms for davening and learning, and everything else a kehilla of this size requires. This massive project is already underway, sponsored by early donations from generous benefactors.
Reb Mordechai Duvid Unger Shlit”a of Bobov-45 is widely known as being the only Rebbe to also serve as Rosh Yeshiva who delivers shiurim to the talmidei yeshiva. This is in addition to his private mentoring of chasidim and non-chasidim, while leading the bobover chassidus with pride and success.
With prayers on their lips, the chassidim await the necessary funds to complete their new home. And in the days ahead, many Lakewood residents will answer the call on their behalf.
